The City of Burnaby is entering an exciting period of growth with the upcoming opening of three new recreation centres, including two state-of-the-art aquatic facilities that will transform recreation services in our community. Burnaby Lake Recreation Centre will feature a 50-metre pool and is poised to become one of the largest and most versatile aquatic facilities in British Columbia. Cameron Community Centre and Library, one of Burnaby's flagship civic projects, will be the largest community centre in the city when complete, offering a full aquatic centre alongside fitness, gymnasium, and multipurpose spaces. Opportunities to help launch major recreation facilities are rare. We are seeking an experienced Recreation Complex Supervisor with a strong background in aquatics. The successful candidate will bring frontline aquatic expertise, proven leadership experience, and the enthusiasm to contribute to a dynamic pre-opening environment where preparation, innovation, and teamwork will set the foundation for long-term success.

This position works in the Burnaby Lake Recreation Centre (Aquatics). This is administrative and supervisory work in planning, coordination, development and implementation of aquatic recreation programs and services. The successful candidate will prepare and administer operating budgets; provide recommendations for revenue generation and cost savings; develop business cases; participate in developing policies and departmental goals and objectives; establish and maintain effective working relationships with community partners and local sports organizations regarding the use of facilities. The successful candidate will supervise a large group of staff either directly or through their supervisors and exercise considerable independence of action, judgement and initiative within the limits of established objectives and policies. Performs related work as required. 

Qualifications include a university degree in recreation or related discipline, including or supplemented by courses in recreation, education and business administration plus considerable related experience at the supervisory level, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing the work performed. Ability to plan, develop, coordinate and administer the operations, programs, allotments, events, and services for a multipurpose recreational complex under minimal supervision. Ability to administer and coordinate the booking, allocation and revenue generating aspects of recreation facilities; to provide liaison, consultative and recreation advisory services to community associations, groups and organizations; to develop policies, procedures, initiatives and provide input to long-range plans and to ensure adherence to approved goals and objectives; to plan, assign, check and supervise the work of staff and hire and train staff as required; to prepare and administer budgets, to develop business cases, to participate in developing Request for Proposals and to prepare and maintain correspondence, records and reports. A Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required. Please note that a Police Information Check is required for this position.

Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly; Tuesday to Saturday from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Mutual Agreement between Monday to Sunday, 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM).
