Environmental Services Manager

The City of Melville is seeking a motivated and experienced Environmental Services Manager to join the Public Works & Planning Department. Reporting to the Director of Public Works & Planning, this leadership role oversees environmental operations, regulatory compliance, infrastructure maintenance, and contracted services while supporting safe and efficient municipal operations.

Key responsibilities include managing landfill and recycling operations, sewage lagoon treatment systems, environmental monitoring, hazardous lands, reservoir maintenance, weed and pest control, and bylaw enforcement contracts. The position also supports municipal water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater utilities in collaboration with the Public Works Manager.

The Environmental Services Manager provides leadership to staff, oversees contracts and tenders, manages budgets, develops operational plans, ensures compliance with environmental and safety legislation, responds to public inquiries, and assists with long-term infrastructure planning. The role also includes preparing reports, supporting Council initiatives, and working collaboratively with contractors, consultants, and City departments.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, communication, budgeting, and project management skills, along with knowledge of municipal public works, environmental regulations, waste management, and infrastructure operations. Experience supervising staff, administering contracts, and responding to operational and public concerns is essential. Mechanical aptitude, problem-solving ability, and knowledge of applicable provincial and federal legislation are considered strong assets.

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced municipal environment, manage multiple priorities, and participate in standby or on-call duties as required.
