We are hiring a Senior Family Lawyer / Associate Counsel – Family Law & Litigation on behalf of our client in Coquitlam.

About the Opportunity

Our client is a distinguished and highly regarded full-service law firm located in Downtown Vancouver. With a longstanding reputation for legal excellence and exceptional client service, the firm advises individuals, families, entrepreneurs, professionals, and businesses across British Columbia.

The firm is seeking a senior lawyer to join its Family Law Group. The successful candidate will maintain a sophisticated Family Law practice, while also having the opportunity to continue developing and managing a broader general litigation practice. This opportunity is ideally suited for an experienced practitioner who has built an established family law practice and is looking to further grow their practice within a respected and collaborative firm environment.

While Family Law will represent the core focus of the role, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to maintain and develop a broader litigation practice, including civil, commercial, estate, employment, shareholder, real estate, construction, and other dispute resolution matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a sophisticated Family Law Litigation practice from initial consultation through resolution, trial, and appeal.
• Represent clients in Provincial Court and Supreme Court of British Columbia proceedings.
• Conduct mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences, judicial case conferences, chambers applications, discoveries, trials, and appeals.
• Advise clients on complex family law matters, including:
  • Parenting and guardianship disputes
  • Relocation applications
  • Child and spousal support claims
  • Property division
  • High-net-worth family law matters
  • Trust and corporate ownership issues
  • Professional practice and business valuations
  • Enforcement and variation proceedings
• Develop litigation strategies and provide practical, solution-oriented legal advice.
• Handle select civil and commercial litigation matters as part of a broader litigation practice.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships and referral networks.
• Contribute to business development initiatives and practice growth.
• Mentor junior lawyers and collaborate with members of the firm's litigation group.

Qualifications

• Member in positive standing with the Law Society of British Columbia.
• Minimum 8+ years of post-call experience, with significant Family Law Litigation experience.
• Demonstrated success independently managing complex family law files.
• Strong advocacy skills and meaningful courtroom experience.
• Experience appearing before the Provincial Court and Supreme Court of British Columbia.
• Established client base and portable book of business preferred.
• Additional experience in civil, commercial, estate, employment, shareholder, real estate, construction, or other litigation matters is considered a strong asset.
• Exceptional legal drafting, negotiation, advocacy, and client management skills.
• Proven business development capabilities and relationship‑building skills.
