Family Physician (Toronto)

Overview

Medcan Health Management is seeking a Family Physician to join our expanding medical staff of over 100 physicians. This part‑time position supports our Year‑Round Care (Urgent/Walk‑In Care Clinic) in Toronto (150York Street). The role includes Saturday shifts and weekday openings, with optional rostered practice for additional shifts.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide screening and primary care health services for Medcan patients
  • Based on history and physical examination provide clinical guidance and recommendations
  • Evaluate the patient’s health, make diagnoses on clinical conditions, prescribe, and administer medications, treatments, and follow‑up care with internal or external specialists
  • Educate, advise, and empower patients on primary and secondary preventive health care
  • Provide counseling and support to patients on a wide range of health and lifestyle issues
  • Participate in Medcan business initiatives including continuing medical education, innovation, research, product development, support, and guidance

What You’ll Need

  • Commit to working at Medcan for a minimum of 1 day per week
  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
  • An active OHIP billing number
  • CCFP designation, CCFP (EM) designation, or FRCPC designation (or equivalent)
  • Physicians who recently completed their residency will be considered
  • Experience in preventive care and wellness is an asset
  • Ability to respectfully and tactfully interact and collaborate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders from diverse backgrounds in a collegial, empathetic manner

Remuneration

Compensation ranges from $190 to $230 per hour, based on the number of days worked and patient volume.

Pay Transparency and Practice Model

Medcan’s practice model is structured so that physicians, who serve as consultants to Medcan, provide proactive, relationship‑based care that extends beyond what is funded under OHIP. Medcan bills OHIP for medically necessary visits, while many services are provided outside of OHIP, such as asynchronous advice, prescription management outside visits, proactive follow‑up on results, and comprehensive preventive assessments. These uninsured services contribute significantly to total earnings.
