Investigate, analyze, and make decisions to approve, refuse or revoke firearms licences and authorizations for individuals, businesses and non‑profit organisations. Access police, court and other secure information databases, conduct interviews with a variety of stakeholders (e.g., licence applicants, family members, employers, medical professionals, police, Crown and others) to undertake thorough investigations. Coordinate and carry out inspections of firearms businesses, shooting ranges and private dwellings to ensure compliance with the Act and Regulations. Plan and implement outreaches to clients and stakeholder groups (e.g., remote or Indigenous communities, other government departments, police, public interest groups) to educate and assist with compliance. Prepare and submit legal documents such as notices of refusal or revocation, court briefs, affidavits and disclosure materials. Refer decisions to provincial court for review when required. Conditions of Employment

Enhanced Reliability Status security clearance required. Willingness to work in environments that may involve exposure to unsettling or graphic police files. Willingness to travel to and work in remote, rugged terrain and other locations as required. Willingness to work overtime and variable hours as required. Ability to handle firearms throughout the position. Ability to lift and carry up to 25kg (55pounds). Valid driver’s licence required. Education

Secondary school diploma or employer‑approved alternative. Experience

Significant experience (minimum 2 years) conducting complex investigations or inspections under a legislative, regulatory, policy or procedural framework. Significant experience conducting interviews to gather information required to make a decision or recommendation. Significant experience preparing correspondence that articulates detailed decisions or recommendations. Experience using the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel). Abilities and Skills

Effective written communication. Effective oral communication. Interpretation and application of legislation and regulations. Presentation of information to a variety of audiences, including judicial and quasi‑judicial bodies. Effective interpersonal skills. Judgement. Dependability. Initiative. Attention to detail. Language Requirements

English essential. Occupational Certification

Successful completion of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course. Candidates do not need to have completed these courses to apply, but they must have completed them prior to an offer of employment. Asset Experience

Experience handling, using or identifying firearms. Experience in dealing with courts and court officials or providing court testimony. Other Languages
