What You'll Do  

Reporting to the Site Supervisor, the role of Journeyperson Electrician is to perform maintenance, upgrading and installation of equipment in 13.8kV to 500 kV substations. Under this role the Journeyperson Electrician reads and interprets drawings, blueprints and electrical code specifications. The Journeyperson Electrician is also responsible for planning layout and illustration of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures based on specifications. The Journeyperson Electrician inspects electrical systems, components and equipment to identify defects and to ensure compliance with codes. This is a senior role which requires performance evaluation, coaching mentoring and training of Electrical Apprentices.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to: 

  • Installation, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of different electrical systems, faulty equipment and apparatus including transformers, circuit breakers, switches, switchgears, instrument transformers, relays and other related equipment (500kV, 240kV, 144kV, 69kV, 25kV, 13.8kV).
  • Installation of structural steel, installation of buried utilities.
  • Operation of construction equipment such as skid steer, mini hoe, manlifts, and zoom booms.
  • Comply with Rising Edge Technologies Ltd.’s Health and Safety Manual and industry safety regulations.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, mentoring and training to Electrical Apprentices in understanding, identifying and resolving technical issues. Assist Electrician Apprentices with the day to day activities involved with substation construction including working in a safe and quality manner.
  • Responsible for Inspection and testing of high voltage electrical equipment installed in a substation. Ensure test and maintenance reports are maintained and completed at all times
  • Lead installation and facilitate planning of ground grids, assembly of power system equipment, cabling and wiring
  • Ensure all electrical work complies with Technical Safety BC requirements, applicable permits and inspections, and company standards
  • Adhere to Rising Edge Technologies Ltd.’s safety policies and safe work procedures and be familiar with the potential hazards of working near energized equipment.

 

Additional Information    

  • This position supports projects throughout British Columbia and will require travel within the province.
  • This position is designated as safety-sensitive making employment contingent upon the successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, as well as criminal and general background checks. 

Schedule & Compensation

  • Schedule rotations range from 4 days on / 3 days off or 8 days on / 6 days off, etc.
  • Standard workdays are 10 hours (7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.)  
  • Overtime compensation will be provided in accordance with the British Columbia Employment Standards Act and/or applicable project agreements.
  • Out-of-town work includes either all-inclusive camp accommodations or LOA and individual accommodations (project dependent) 
  • A reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this role is $47.43 - $55.53 CAD at the time of this posting. Individual compensation within the range is determined based on job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.

Requirements

What We're Looking For  

  • Valid and recognized Journeyperson Electrician Certificate
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience as an Electrician with at least 2 years of experience working in substations required
  • PSSP/WPP, Cat 5 or equivalent training and certifications considered an asset
  • Experience in BC Hydro or utility-related work preferred
  • High-voltage experience considered a strong asset
  • Have thorough knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) with BC Amendments, Technical Safety BC requirements, and WorkSafeBC occupational health and safety regulations as they relate to electrical and utility work
  • Have a calid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent, with an acceptable driving record
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, Office and computer-based test equipment would be an asset
  • Must be able to work comfortably at heights
  • Ability and willingness to work out of town
  • Able to travel including travelling to remote sites.
  • Able to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Dedicated to a respectful work environment and teamwork with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines.
  • Must show that you can work in a safe manner with respect to the environment, health and safety issues in the workplace.
