Senior Design Manager – Major Transit Infrastructure Programme

A leading global consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager to support the delivery of one of Canada’s largest transit infrastructure expansion programmes.

This opportunity is ideal for professionals already based in the Greater Toronto Area with significant experience delivering complex rail, transit, transportation or multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.

The role will support major commuter rail and urban transit expansion works, leading design management and coordination activities across large-scale infrastructure programmes that are shaping the future of mobility in Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead multidisciplinary design management and coordination activities across major infrastructure projects

• Manage design delivery programmes, ensuring alignment with project schedules, milestones and delivery objectives

• Coordinate interfaces between designers, consultants, contractors, client representatives and wider project stakeholders

• Oversee design review processes, technical coordination and resolution of design issues across multiple disciplines

• Lead design and coordination meetings, ensuring actions, risks and dependencies are effectively managed and communicated

• Monitor design progress, track deliverables and provide reporting to senior project leadership teams

• Ensure effective management and flow of design information across project teams and stakeholders

• Maintain governance, assurance and document management processes in line with programme requirements

• Support risk management, constructability reviews and design integration activities across complex infrastructure works

• Mentor and support junior design management and coordination team members where required

Requirements:

• Significant experience in design management or multidisciplinary design coordination on major infrastructure projects

• Strong understanding of infrastructure design delivery processes, technical reviews and project lifecycle management

• Experience working on rail, subway, transportation, heavy civil or large multidisciplinary infrastructure programmes preferred

• Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder environments across clients, consultants and contractors

• Strong communication, coordination and leadership capabilities

• Experience with design management systems, document controls and reporting processes

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with ProjectWise, SharePoint or similar systems considered an asset

• Degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, construction management, architecture or related built environment discipline

• Professional accreditation or membership with recognised industry bodies considered an asset
