Job Responsibility:
POSITION TITLE: INTERMEDIATE HARDWARE ENGINEER
DEPARTMENT: ENGINEERING
POSITION SUMMARY: Design the analog circuits and digital interfaces for new instruments in the electrical domain.
Provide support as requires for existing products, such as design changes to accommodate parts that are no longer available. Provide technical support to other departments.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS AND PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Design analog and digital circuits for measurement instruments.
- Assist in PCB layout and analog simulation using software tools (preferably Pspice or LTspice).
- Development of mixed signal systems, engineering boards and test fixtures.
- Utilize tools appropriate for the design, verification and/or simulation requirements of specific projects including but not limited to such tools as Orcad, Allegro, Spice and MATLAB.
- Perform design, design review and test/validation tasks in accordance with standard industry practices for reliability, safety, and other requirements such as CE and RoHS.
- Prepare drawings for specific products, including, but not limited to specifications, production drawings, test procedures and technical/user manuals.
- Maintaining a file for each design task, containing such items as design analysis, design details, design reviews and test results. This also includes preparation and presentation of the results of a design project or process as a formal report for design reviews and later information access.
- Support technology transfer of new products to Guildline's Manufacturing Department, including support for the preparation of test procedures, process instructions, calibration procedures, test equipment requirements plus any other support activities requiring engineering support.
- Respond to formal requests for design and product support from other departments, such as parts substitution requests and non-conformance reports.
- Respond to informal requests for product support from other departments, such as addressing problems in
Manufacturing, and requests for technical information from Sales or Customer Service.
- Provide studies, analysis, interpretations, and conclusions related to the use of measurement circuits and digital signal processing techniques.
- Support the preparation of labour and material estimates, and technical proposals for the development of new instruments.
- Perform other general engineering type tasks as may be required from time to time.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:
- Hands-on PCB layout knowledge.
- Basic understanding of microcontrollers and serial communication (UART, SPI, 12C, USB, I2S, Ethernet).
- Some experience with analog system design including low-noise ADC/DAC data acquisition.
EDUCATION: University level Engineering Degree.
EXPERIENCE: 3 plus years industry experience in designing analog/digital circuits.
REPORTING TO : Engineering manager or designate.
