The Opportunity
TTI is seeking a strategic, practical and highly organized Senior Communications Strategist to coordinate its public information, stakeholder engagement, media relations and digital communications.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Strategist will translate organizational priorities, Township services, governance matters and complex technical information into clear and accessible communications for residents, businesses, taxpayers, partners, media and the public.

This is a senior individual-contributor position combining strategic advice with hands-on delivery. As TTI’s dedicated communications professional, the Strategist will implement TTI’s Communications and Marketing Strategy, manage its public communications channels and establish effective communications practices for a growing organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop communications plans, campaigns, editorial calendars and performance measures aligned with TTI’s priorities.
• Advise the Executive Director on public information needs, stakeholder concerns, emerging issues and reputational risks.
• Prepare public notices, website and social media content, newsletters, presentations, key messages, media statements and other communications materials.
• Coordinate timely communications about Township services, infrastructure, construction impacts, service interruptions, property assessment and taxation.
• Manage TTI’s website and other public-facing channels, ensuring content is accurate, current, accessible and written in plain language.
• Plan and support engagement with residents, businesses, taxpayers, community partners and other stakeholders.
• Coordinate media inquiries and support issues management, urgent communications and crisis response.
• Work with employees, contractors, technical advisors, service providers and partner organizations to verify information and coordinate approvals.
• Manage external website, creative and communications service providers as required.
• Work respectfully within Tsuut’ina Nation protocols, governance relationships and community contexts.

Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate will have:

• A degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, public administration, digital media or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
• At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public relations, public information or stakeholder engagement.
• Experience independently leading complex communications files and advising senior leaders.
• Exceptional writing, editing, presentation and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex or sensitive subjects clearly.
• Experience with strategic communications, digital content, media relations, issues management or community engagement.
• Sound judgment when managing confidential, politically visible, reputationally sensitive or time-critical matters.
• Strong project-management, organizational and relationship-building skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, content-management systems, social media, web analytics, generative AI tools and basic design applications.

Experience working as a sole communications practitioner with responsibility for both strategy and delivery is strongly preferred.

The following would be considered assets:

• Experience with a First Nation or Indigenous government, municipal or other public-sector organization, community-service organization, utility or land-development environment.
• Knowledge of Tsuut’ina Nation or experience working respectfully with First Nations and Indigenous community partners.
• Knowledge of public-sector governance, municipal services, property assessment and taxation, digital accessibility, privacy or emergency communications.
• Experience developing, launching or managing a public website or digital-service platform.

Working at TTI
This is a permanent, full-time, 37.5 hours/week, in-person position based at TTI’s office at Suite 240, 5894 Tsuut’ina Parkway, Tsuut’ina Nation, near Calgary.

Regular Monday-to-Friday attendance is required. Occasional local travel and evening or weekend work may be necessary for public meetings, community events or urgent communications.
