Student Conduct Specialist

$65k - $75k per year

About Yorkville University

Yorkville University is built on the belief that education is a catalyst for transformation. With a mission to democratize access to higher learning, Yorkville—together with Toronto Film School—offers creative and academic pathways that blend innovation, industry relevance, and the arts. As one of Canada’s few private, fully accredited degree‑granting universities, Yorkville delivers rigorous, flexible programs across its campuses in Ontario, British Columbia, and New Brunswick. Its offerings are designed to fit into the lives of learners, many of whom balance studies with work and personal commitments, ensuring education enhances rather than disrupts their daily realities.

Yorkville’s community is vibrant, diverse, and united by a commitment to opportunity and inclusion. Faculty and staff across teaching, operations, and technology work to remove barriers and expand access, fostering a supportive environment for both learners and employees. Through industry‑informed programs, first‑of‑their‑kind innovations, and a deep focus on human connection, Yorkville empowers people to reimagine their futures and achieve meaningful personal and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (OSRR), the Student Conduct Specialist supports fair, inclusive, and student‑centred conduct processes by providing policy guidance, assessing concerns and appeals, facilitating resolution, and collaborating across the University to promote a safe, respectful, and equitable learning environment.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for students seeking information and support related to rights, responsibilities, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide clear, trauma‑informed, and culturally sensitive guidance to complainants, respondents, and witnesses, and refer students to appropriate campus and community resources.
  • Support and deliver educational initiatives related to student conduct, conflict resolution, academic integrity, and community standards.
  • Receive, assess, and manage student concerns, complaints, and appeals in accordance with university policy and principles of procedural fairness.
  • Explain conduct processes, timelines, and potential outcomes, and facilitate informal or early‑resolution processes where appropriate.
  • Conduct preliminary fact‑finding and risk assessments, including gathering documentation, interviewing parties, identifying applicable policies, and preparing objective case reports.
  • Compile evidence and case materials to support decision‑makers and committees, maintaining accurate, confidential records in compliance with privacy legislation.
  • Prepare correspondence, case documentation, and reports, including statistical summaries to support decision‑making, assessment, and compliance.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of OSRR processes and foster collaborative, inclusive working relationships across the University.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., social sciences, education, conflict resolution, human rights, law, psychology).
  • Experience in student support services within a post-secondary environment, preferably involving conflict resolution, risk assessment, complaint management, or incident response.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex policies, procedures, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Knowledge of student development theory, trauma-informed practice, and equity-based approaches.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work with students in distress and engage in difficult conversations with professionalism and neutrality.
  • Excellent written communication skills for preparing case summaries, reports, and educational materials.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with academic and administrative units and maintain professional relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple case files with discretion and confidentiality.
Working Conditions
  • Hybrid with 4 days on campus, 1 day remote.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend work to support urgent cases, educational programming, or hearings.
  • Exposure to emotionally sensitive or distressing content, requiring resilience and use of appropriate self-care strategies.
