Nanny Wanted - We Need A Part Time Ottawa Nanny Who Understands "Pda Autism," Loves To Laugh, And Can Co Regulate. $30 $40/Hr, Alta Vista.

We are a warm, loving, family in the Alta Vista area of Ottawa. We love to laugh, be active outdoors, try new things, and look for the silver linings in life. We're looking for a part-time nanny who already knows about "PDA Autism." (It's a profile of autism, but it requires a very specific approach, which is the opposite of how one approaches the other types of Autism. For example, the ABA system will NOT work at all). You will need to be experienced at co-regulating neurodiverse kids who sometimes have big emotions and are bouncing with energy. (Luckily, they are also adorable and hilarious).

REQUIREMENTS:

Ideally, you would be able to...

• Visit our home part-time, usually daytime (hours are flexible).
• Play with our 7-year old boy during the day (and sometimes 10-year old girl), both indoors and outdoors, in all seasons.
• Be active (maybe kick a soccer ball, or bike, or swim).
• As needed for PDA kids, you would need to able to remain steady, warm, & relaxed, even when our kids become loud/hyper or non-compliant.
• Hopefully also help us with another task around the house (maybe housekeeping, or meal prep, or organizing the chaos, or little house repairs, or gardening, or tutoring...depending on your skills, your interest, and what we need help with). Some days might be more childcare, and some days might be more housecare.
• Have a sense of humour. Life is funny! Even during hard times, it's possible to see that life is also amusing and often beautiful. Our kids will do and say very funny things, and you and I can laugh about it afterwards together :)
• Understand that PDA kids exhibit a whole range of behaviour that can seem odd, rude, loud, and non-compliant. It's not even possible to force them to behave more neurotypically (even though we wish we could sometimes!). Rather, we have to focus on more attainable expectations, and be patient with their fluctuating bandwidth, mood, and anxiety.
• Not use any screens at all with our kids. None. No TV, no ipad, no laptop, no video games, no phones. We're keeping it healthy and authentic while they are this young.
• It would be great if you're able to drive sometimes, in order to bring kids to an appointment, or go for an adventure. You could drive our car.
• If you have any other special talents (piano, guitar, singing, math, etc), then maybe you could do some tutoring and teach them new things. This is not required, but it might be fun for both of you.
