Staff Accountant

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Accountant based in Canada. The Staff Accountant will support accounting operations for a diverse portfolio of small and medium-sized businesses across multiple industries. This remote opportunity combines day-to-day bookkeeping, financial reporting, tax preparation, and client relationship management. You will help maintain accurate financial records, process transactions, and prepare reports that enable senior accounting professionals and clients to make informed decisions. Working with modern cloud-based accounting platforms, you will contribute to efficient workflows and reliable financial data management. Accountabilities: - Manage daily accounting activities: Maintain complete and accurate client financial records, ensuring transactions are recorded correctly and supporting documentation is properly organized. - Process financial documentation: Review and process invoices, bills, receipts, and other documents submitted by clients, following established accounting procedures. - Maintain accounting data: Enter financial information into cloud-based accounting systems while safeguarding data integrity and ensuring records remain current and reliable. - Support client relationships: Communicate with clients through email and video calls, request missing information proactively, and provide responsive, professional assistance. - Prepare financial reports: Organize accounting records, financial statements, and supporting schedules for review by senior accounting professionals and for delivery to clients. - Manage accounts payable and receivable: Process routine transactions, monitor outstanding items, and support the accurate recording of incoming and outgoing payments.

- Prepare sales tax returns: Assist with the preparation of GST, HST, and PST returns, ensuring information is accurate and documentation is complete. - Use cloud accounting technology: Work with platforms such as Xero, QuickBooks Online (QBO), Dext, and Plooto to manage financial workflows and improve efficiency. - Contribute to continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline repetitive tasks, learn new tools, and improve the quality and consistency of accounting services. - Collaborate with the accounting team: Support senior accountants, manage competing priorities, and contribute to a reliable, client-focused service experience. Requirements: - At least one year of bookkeeping experience is required. - Familiarity with cloud-based accounting software, particularly Xero and/or QuickBooks Online (QBO). - Understanding of basic accounting processes, including transaction recording, invoice processing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial record maintenance. - Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with a commitment to maintaining accurate and complete records. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a customer service-oriented approach to client interactions. - Strong time-management and multitasking abilities, including the capacity to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. - Adaptability, initiative, and effective problem-solving skills, with a willingness to ask questions and learn new processes. - Ability to work collaboratively within a team while managing assigned responsibilities independently. - Comfort working in a remote environment, with access to reliable high-speed internet and availability during core business hours.
