The Automation & Monitoring Specialist plays a key role in delivering and advancing automation, monitoring, and observability capabilities within Nutrien’s IT Operations.

This is a new and growing practice. Nutrien is building a modern automation and observability capability from the ground up, and this role is well positioned to influence how that capability develops across the organization. You will work in partnership with the IT Operations and Monitoring Manager to execute the roadmap, while shaping how automation and monitoring are implemented both within the IT Operations Center (ITOC) and across infrastructure and application teams.

The ITOC is the primary customer for these services, but success in this role depends on building strong working relationships across teams and driving adoption of common standards and practices. You will be responsible for delivering and scaling automation and monitoring capabilities that lead to measurable improvements in operational performance, including reduced manual effort, improved alert quality, and faster incident response.

The role is balanced between hands‑on development and coordination. You will spend time building automation and integrations directly, while also coordinating other developers and influencing teams to align to shared standards and approaches.

What You'll Do:

Backlog & Roadmap Delivery : Own the intake, prioritization, and delivery of work through a structured backlog to execute the automation and monitoring roadmap

Hands‑on Development : Design and build automation, integrations, and monitoring components directly, particularly for complex or high‑value use cases

Coordination & Standards : Coordinate development across the ITOC and domain teams to establish and drive alignment to shared standards, reusable automation, and alerting practices

Operational Excellence : Reduce alert noise, improve alert quality (actionability and relevance), and integrate monitoring platforms with IT service management (ITSM) workflows

AI‑Assisted Delivery : Apply AI‑assisted development tools and approaches to accelerate development, scale delivery, and improve the quality of automation solutions

Performance Metrics : Track, analyze, and report on key performance indicators such as reductions in manual effort, alert volume, and incident response times

What You'll Bring:

Domain Expertise : Strong experience delivering automation, monitoring, or observability initiatives within enterprise IT Operations (e.g., ITOC/NOC) environments

Technical Scripting : Hands‑on proficiency with scripting and automation tools such as PowerShell, Python, Ansible, Terraform, or similar

Observability Platforms : Experience configuring and managing monitoring platforms such as Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalent

Methodology & Delivery : Experience managing work within Agile/Kanban frameworks, with the ability to translate operational pain points into clear backlog requirements

AI Tooling : Familiarity with using AI‑assisted development tools in your development work

Influence & Collaboration : Strong relationship‑building and communication skills, with a proven ability to coordinate delivery across multiple teams and drive alignment without direct authority

What You'll Get:

Purpose‑Driven Work

– Make an impact as part of a global team feeding the future and support farmers locally and around the world

Excellent Benefits

– Comprehensive medical, dental and vision coverage, plus a retirement program with generous employer matching for your future

Grow Your Career
