TAQA is seeking a Geologist to join our North Asset team, supporting the development of our extensive Montney land base. Reporting to the North Asset Manager, this role will play a key part in refining and characterizing a large, high-quality inventory to enable reliable forecasts and long-term development planning. The successful candidate will leverage a robust geological model built in Petrel and integrate geological interpretations with geomechanics, reservoir engineering, and data analytics to unlock value from a comprehensive production and subsurface dataset. This position is based in our downtown Calgary office and is a highly collaborative role requiring strong technical leadership and the ability to translate subsurface insights into actionable development strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead refinement and characterization of the Montney inventory using integrated subsurface data and 3D geological modelling (Petrel).
- Develop and maintain comprehensive geological interpretations by integrating geological, geophysical, petrophysical, and reservoir engineering data.
- Collaborate across disciplines (geomechanics, reservoir engineering, completions) to optimize well planning, completions design, and full-field development strategies.
- Support the creation of reliable production forecasts by linking geological interpretations to production performance and data analytics.
- Identify opportunities to enhance asset value through optimization of existing inventory and development concepts.
- Contribute to economic evaluations through assessment of subsurface risk and uncertainty.
- Provide technical support for land and corporate development activities, including acquisitions, divestitures, and drilling proposals.
- Participate in reserves evaluations, audits, and reporting processes.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to the technical growth of the asset team.
- Drive continuous improvement in workflows, integration, and technical innovation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Geology.
- Maintain professional membership in good standing with APEGA.
- Strong experience in Montney and/or Deep Basin plays; unconventional expertise preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with Petrel and integrated subsurface modelling workflows.
- Proven ability to integrate geological models with geomechanics, reservoir engineering, and production data.
- Strong understanding of development planning, forecasting, and reserves processes.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence across technical and leadership teams.
- Track record of identifying and progressing value-generating opportunities
- Highly motivated team player with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with tools such as Accumap, Geoscout, Petrel and Microsoft Office; exposure to data analytics tools is an asset.
- Leadership capability, with a desire to contribute to team performance.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Ability to provide three satisfactory professional references and complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
