NEWCOMER LIFE SKILLS WORKER

FAMILY SUPPORTS FOR NEWCOMERS PROGRAM

FULL-TIME, TERM POSITION ENDING MARCH 2025

(With the possibility of an extension)

CLASSIFICATION/WAGE RANGE: PC- $40,426 - $52,656 per annum

Reporting to the Program Assistant Manager, The Newcomer Life Skills Worker will work with high needs newcomer families and individuals in the Family Supports for Newcomers Program. Responsibilities will include skill building and assistance

with day to day living tasks to support increased independence and successful settlement and integration to Canada.

As a representative of Family Dynamics, the person in this position will adopt the mission, philosophy, and values of the agency in all aspects of their work. Clients are to be treated with dignity and respect and assured of confidentiality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

In collaboration with the Newcomer Case Coordinators and Clinical Supervisors, the Newcomer Life Skills Worker will:

· Facilitate teaching clients how to do various tasks and learn skills needed for living in Canada

· Help clients find and attend appointments, community programs, and community resources

· Pick- ups & drop offs, with or without the client, for basic need resources

· Assist with forms, applications and other documents

· Support clients to view housing units, pest control preparation, and teaching household maintenance skills

· Treat client families with dignity and respect, observing client rights and confidentiality practices

CASELOAD MANAGEMENT:

· Plan and organize work schedule

· Consult regularly with team members and Program Managers

· Be accountable to the Program Managers for progress reports and evaluation of services

· Follow all agency policies and procedures

RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT :

· Gather and share information about resources in the community

· Participate in professional development and appropriate training

TEAM PARTICIPATION:

· Work cohesively with team members and Program Managers in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program

· Attend and participate in team meetings and case reviews/consults.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

? Demonstrated cross cultural competence and experience working with newcomers is required

? Demonstrated competence and experience working with vulnerable populations

? Bachelor's degree in Human/Social Services field is required

? Two years of experience with direct client services or equivalent combination of experience and education will be in consideration

? Additional relevant language(s) is an asset

? Satisfactory results from a Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector and Child Abuse Registry Check is required

? Exceptional cross cultural competence and experience working with high needs newcomer families

? Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of resettlement issues and barriers to integration

? Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

? Knowledge of child development and family dynamics

? Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of trauma and attachment

? Proactive teaching and psychosocial skill-building skills

? Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide range of people, situations, problems, challenges and opportunities

? Demonstrated ability to liaise and positively network with other professionals, agencies and systems

? Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team

? Ability to set and observe appropriate professional boundaries

? Efficient organizational and time management skills

? Strong written communication skills

? Knowledge of community resources

? Competent basic computer, internet and email skills
