Responsibilities

Tasks

• Determine areas for fishing and plot courses
• Estimate costs of operations in terms of labour, equipment and maintenance
• Steer vessels and operate navigational instruments and electronic fishing aids
• Operate fishing vessels and fishing gears
• Supervise crew members
• Transport fish to processing plants or fish buyers
• Maintain engine, fishing gear and other on-board equipment
• Record fishing progress, crew activities, weather and sea conditions on ship's log
• Maintain dock area and marina facilities
