Community Training Specialist

SmartICE is looking for a Community Training Specialist who can help strengthen and formalize our Operator Training program to ensure it is practical, accessible, and grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing and learning. You’ll work closely with both the Community Operations and Engineering teams to keep training aligned with our technology. This person is someone who is comfortable building resources, supporting and coaching trainers, and creating clear, consistent curriculums. Additionally, this person will need to be willing to travel, connect with communities, and use feedback to keep improving how we train and learn.

SmartICE is looking for people who

• Post-secondary education in: Adult Education, Instructional Design, Teaching, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
• Experience designing, delivering, and evaluating training programs
• Demonstrated ability to assess training effectiveness and implement improvements
• Experience developing curriculum, including research and content creation
• Experience using blended learning approaches (in-person, virtual, and self-directed)
• Experience supporting, coaching, or evaluating facilitators and trainers
• Experience working with youth, young adults, or adult learners
• Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work both independently and alongside trainers and cross-functional teams
• Relationship-focused, with the ability to build trust and work effectively with diverse groups
• Experience working with Indigenous communities, with cultural awareness and respec
• Excellent organizational, communication, and facilitation skills

What you will do

• Conducting a full programmatic review and audit of current community training materials, manuals, and assets
• Working within Community Operations and alongside Engineering team to ensure all training reflects current SmartICE technology and procedures
• Ensuring all materials are accessible, teachable, and rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing and learning
• Designing and updating community training resources as technology evolves
• Developing and documenting trainer best practices
• Developing and updating the formal Train-the-Trainer Framework, with assistance from a consultant as neededCreating trainer checklists, evaluation checkpoints, and reporting tools
• Travelling to communities to observe training delivery and provide feedback
• Supporting the development of participant testing, grading, and completion recognition systems
• Collaborating with the Manager of Community Operations to plan the annual Operations Fall Retreat
• Facilitating ongoing evaluation and continuous improvement of training programs through trainer, Operations, and Engineering feedback
• Providing coaching and facilitation support to trainers and Operations Leads using adult learning and current teaching best practices
• Supporting the standardization of onboarding and training delivery processes across communities and regions
• Identifying and recommending professional development opportunities for trainers and Operations Leads
• Maintain the training curriculum on our Learning Management System
