Labour Relations Advisor
Exempt Staff Position, Regular Full-Time
- Provides guidance, coaching and support on a wide range of labour relations matters, including collective agreement application and grievance management.
- Develops and implements initiatives that enhance employee engagement, recognition, and retention.
- Collaborate with departments to identify workforce challenges and develop HR strategies that promote long-term employee satisfaction and organizational effectiveness.
- Supports the collective bargaining processes, including research, drafting proposals, and participating at the bargaining table.
- Conducts workplace investigations, ensuring procedural and legal compliance. Addresses and resolves interpersonal workplace conflict.
- Prepares reports and policies.
- Assists with performance management, performance reviews, training and development, and attendance management.
- Assists with all functions of the Human Resources Department on matters including recruitment andretention, health and safety, employee engagement and recognition, job evaluation, training and development, disability management, workplace accommodations, equity, diversity, and inclusion, policy development, performance management, and other administrative functions.
Qualifications, skills and experience required include:
- Bachelors Degree in Business or Public Administration with a concentration in Labour Relations.
- At least three years of labour relations experience in a unionized workplace. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation such as the BC Labour Code, Employment StandardsAct, BC Human Rights Code, WorkSafe BC Regulation and Workers Compensation Act.
- Strong working knowledge of labour case law, procedural requirements, and best practices.
- Additional specific training in areas such as: leadership, conflict resolution, change management, organizational behavior, health and safety, and related fields.
- Experience with contract negotiations, grievance management, arbitration processes, respectful workplace investigations, and occupational health and safety investigations.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, mediation and facilitation skills.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion on all matters.
