The Faculty of Arts is seeking qualified Contract Academic Staff (CAS) to teach the following courses taught in the Department of Political Science at the Brandon University Campus for the Fall Session in Term 1 and the Winter Session in Term 2. The courses may be delivered in an online synchronous format but preference will be given to qualified candidates who will teach in-person.
Qualifications : Applicants must have successful teaching experience and relevant expertise in Political Science or related field. They will hold a Master’s Degree in Political Science, and those holding a Ph.D. or who are at the ABD stage may be preferred. Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the Master’s degree and are invited to contact the Chair of the Selection Committee on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.
Salary : $8,132 per 3 credit hour course.

Fall Term: Classes run from September 9 to December 11, 2026, with an exam period following.
Winter Term: Classes run from January 5 to April 9, 2027, with an exam period following.
78:370 AMERICAN POLITICS – Slot 12 (Tues. 11:40am- 12:30pm and Thur. 11:30 am- 1:30pm.) – Fall
This course introduces students to the study of American politics. It surveys the evolution of American political culture and explores the function of core political institutions, such as Congress, the presidency and the Supreme Court. It also examines the role of political parties and elections and considers the impact of public opinion, the media and interest groups.
78:372 EUROPEAN POLITICS – Slot 8 (Mond. and Wed.- 3:40-5:30pm) – Fall
This course explores contemporary politics in and across Europe from a comparative perspective. In addition to the study of elections, parties and governing institutions in selected countries, the course focuses on salient thematic issues relevant to an understanding of European politics, such as borders, belonging and the movement of people; the European minority rights regime; changing notions of European identity, and the prospects for, and challenges of, European integration. Special attention is devoted to the European Union.
78:354 INTERNATIONAL SECURITY – Wed. 6-9 pm– Winter
This course examines the question of security in global politics. It surveys orthodox approaches to strategic studies that focus primarily on state security, as well as more recent trends in the discipline that understand security from the perspective of marginalized concepts, such as gender, Indigeneity, the environment and human security.
78:460 ISSUES IN CANADIAN POLITICS Slot 14 (Thurs 1:40-4:30 pm) – Winter
This course represents a critical study of some of the key debates, issues, and outstanding challenges in the study of Canadian politics and governance. Themes may include such topics as the democratic deficit, political representation, regionalism, executive dominance, reconciliation, nationalism, identity, and the politics of inclusion and exclusion in the Canadian polity.
