Base salary range: $126,800 - $164,100 CAD. The role is eligible for discretionary variable compensation based on business and individual performance.
Department Overview
Build a world‑class, diverse and inclusive technology team within TD Securities. The Velocity team focuses on rapid, precise data platform evolution. As a Principal Engineer, you will own data platform operations and customer delivery while fostering a start‑up mindset and leveraging the latest technology to impact global customers.
Responsibilities
- Lead ownership of data platform operations and customer delivery.
- Provide technical guidance and creative solutions for platform limitations.
- Monitor platform health, FinOps statistics, cost optimization, and customer satisfaction.
- Lead a small team of solution engineers in addressing data platform challenges.
- Design, research, and implement process components to enable Azure functionalities (e.g., Unity Catalog, Azure Purview).
- Analyze platform changes, monitor application impact, and deliver technical solutions quickly.
- Actively manage and escalates risk and customer‑impacting issues to management.
- Architect high‑level solution designs, automate, and build observability and security‑first principles into operations.
- Participate in agile ceremonies, lead demos and presentations, and mentor new engineers.
- Contribute to internal speaking and advocacy events.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering or a technical certificate.
- 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Expert knowledge in one or more programming languages: Java, Python, JavaScript, Scala.
- Experience designing and operating a data platform from ingestion to consumption.
- Strong experience with cloud environments, especially Azure (AKS, Docker, VMs, streaming, API development).
- Experience with Azure Data Lake, Managed Identities, Service Principals, Azure Databricks, Terraform, and Kubernetes.
- Experience with CI/CD or DevOps workflows.
- Experience with PaaS offerings from Azure, GCP, or Databricks.
- Knowledge of third‑party vendors such as Dremio or Confluent Kafka is a plus.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and liaison skills across multiple parties.
- Ability to create architectural diagrams with networking focus and system design.
- Leadership ability to influence multiple teams and manage competing priorities.
- Passion for automation, open‑source solutions, observability, and security‑first principles.
