Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes Specialist – NETE

Weir Canada Inc., Weir Marine Engineering – LaSalle, QC (alternative: Halifax, NS) – Hybrid (Position 06-306). Permanent, full‑time, hybrid; work may be performed remotely or onsite.

Purpose of Role: Design, develop, and test high‑availability OpenShift clusters in hybrid private cloud environments for current and future Royal Canadian Navy ships. The role includes system design, validation, pilot deployments, and detailed architecture. No on‑call or user support is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Interfacing : Interact with clients and stakeholders to understand, extract, and develop functional, operational, performance, and security requirements.
  • System Design : Produce architecture design reference diagrams and documentation per group style using established templates.
  • Technical Execution : Conduct investigations, evaluations, produce configurations and implementation procedures for deployment, develop methodical test plans, and conduct test events.
  • Team Collaboration : Participate in internal and external review, coordination, and progress meetings, and review technical work from peers.
  • Safety‑First Attitude : Demonstrate 100 % commitment to zero‑harm behaviors supporting a world‑class safety culture.

Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

  • Ten or more years of relevant IT technical experience.
  • Eight or more years in Linux/Unix environments, with at least three years focused on Kubernetes using Red‑Hat OpenShift or similar platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • OpenShift Virtualization
    • VMware vSphere cluster installation, configuration, and management
    • CI/CD pipelines and GitOps using JFrog Artifactory or similar products
    • Storage technologies (Red‑Hat SDS, Ceph, NFS, iSCSI, Fiber Channel)
    • AWS and/or Azure cloud services (hybrid/on‑premise experience is a strong asset)
    • Automation using Ansible, PowerShell, and Helm
    • Linux and Windows Server operating systems
  • Fast learner, proactive, responsive, self‑driven, excellent organizational skills, ownership, pride in work, attention to detail, and ability to work autonomously.
  • Canadian citizenship and continuous residence in Canada for a minimum of ten years with no periods longer than six continuous months abroad (required for a Secret level government security clearance).
