As a key position within the Business Events Department, the Manager, Business Events contributes to the overall organizational mission and vision by bringing excellence to the critical field of Business Events sales. Reporting to the Director Sales, Business & Major Events, the incumbent is responsible for building and maintaining a full roster of clients and potential clients in the Canadian market. To succeed in this role, the incumbent should possess confidence and a positive attitude and have a strong history of demonstrating talent, creativity and success in a rapid sales cycle environment. With a passion for the Business Events market and a commitment to building Ottawa’s reputation as a destination of choice within this market, the incumbent must be a strategic and operational thinker as well as a client manager who is able to convert relationships and client interest into the successful realization of business objectives. As a resourceful and independent decision-maker, the Manager, Business Events is expected to think and to act independently while also possessing a strong ability to work as a member of a team. This successful candidate will be Ottawa-based.
This position is based out of the Ottawa Tourism offices in beautiful downtown Ottawa. Ottawa Tourism employs a hybrid work model, with some ability for all employees to work remotely. In some cases, certain positions will have an ongoing requirement to maintain a physical presence in the office. Such details will be discussed during the application process.

Primary Areas of Responsibility
- Generate and manage leads; foster relationships with potential clients
- Develop, cultivate, and manage client accounts with a goal of converting these relationships into actionable outcomes that align with the organization’s strategic sales goals
- Assist the Business Events and Marketing teams in building brand awareness for the destination, with a view to securing the long-term success and value of Ottawa as a top Business Events destination
- Identify accounts and opportunities for Ottawa Tourism’s members; maintain strong relations with members in order to understand needs and requirements, and to maintain full awareness of the unique value propositions offered by the organization’s diverse member businesses
- Manage and/or assist in the preparation of customized bid proposals; conduct bid presentations; liaise with bid stakeholders as necessary, with a view to securing the success of bids
- Plan, manage, and host client site inspections and familiarization (FAM) tours
- Provide feedback to the supervisor and to other senior members of the Ottawa Tourism team in the development of quarterly and annual sales goals
- Serve as a subject matter expert in assigned market(s)
- Perform all duties and requirements of the position while acting with integrity, honesty, and enthusiasm
- Assist supervisor (or other senior leader as directed) in the development and execution of projects and organizational initiatives as required and directed
- Contribute as a key member of the Business Events Department, helping to define, refine, and champion the team’s strategic goals, operational priorities, and long-term vision
- Work collaboratively and in partnership with key members of the Ottawa Tourism team
- Work collaboratively and in partnership with key external stakeholders; manage stakeholder relations to achieve maximum impact and success
- Act as an exemplary ambassador for Ottawa Tourism at all external events, as directed and required
Desired Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline (Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or Finance)
- 5 years’ experience in sales, ideally in the Business Events
- Comfortable with cross-cultural communication s and international business norms and standards
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft Office software; comfortable working with CRM platforms and any other required technologies
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work with limited supervision, multi-task and meet sales targets
- Strong commitment to personal professional development
- Ability to work as part of a team, including a willingness to work towards the continual improvement of team performance
- Proven abilities in building partnerships and collaborative, long-term working relationships
- Demonstrated experience working in a sales capacity in the Canadian, US, or international markets
- Ability to work outside normal business hours
- Ability and eligibility to travel internationally, and to maintain a regular domestic and international travel schedule on behalf of the organization
- Demonstrated experience and skill in overseeing and managing projects throughout the entire project life cycle

Titulaire d’un poste clé au sein du service des Événements d’affaires, le ou la gestionnaire, Événements d’affaires, contribue à la mission et à la vision globales de l’organisme en assurant l’excellence dans le domaine essentiel des ventes d’événements d’affaires. Relevant du directeur des ventes, Événements professionnels et majeurs, la personne titulaire du poste est responsable de la constitution et du maintien d’une liste complète de clients et de clients potentiels sur le marché canadien. Pour réussir dans ce rôle, la personne titulaire du poste doit posséder confiance et une attitude positive et avoir de solides antécédents de talent, de créativité et de réussite dans un environnement de cycle de vente rapide. Passionnée par le marché des événements d’affaires et déterminé à bâtir la réputation d’Ottawa en tant que destination de choix dans ce marché, la personne titulaire du poste doit posséder une vision stratégique et opérationnelle et être en mesure, à titre de gestionnaire de clientèle, de convertir les relations et les intérêts des clients en réalisation des objectifs d’affaires. Ce poste est basé dans les bureaux de Tourisme Ottawa, dans le magnifique centre-ville d’Ottawa. Tourisme Ottawa utilise un modèle de travail hybride, qui permet à tous les membres du personnel de travailler occasionnellement à distance. Principaux domaines de responsabilité
- Générer et gérer des occasions d’affaires; favoriser les relations avec la clientèle potentielle.
- Développer, cultiver et gérer les comptes de la clientèle dans le but de convertir ces relations en résultats exploitables qui s’harmonisent avec les objectifs de vente stratégiques de l’organisme.
- Aider les équipes des événements d’affaires et du marketing à renforcer la notoriété de la marque de la destination, et ce, en vue d’assurer le succès et la valeur à long terme d’Ottawa en tant que destination de choix pour les événements d’affaires.
- Cerner les comptes et les possibilités pour les membres de Tourisme Ottawa; entretenir des relations solides avec les membres afin de comprendre les besoins et les exigences, et de rester pleinement conscient des propositions de valeur uniques offertes par les diverses entreprises membres de l’organisme.
- Gérer et/ou aider à la préparation de propositions de soumissions personnalisées; réaliser des présentations de soumissions; assurer la liaison avec les parties prenantes de la soumission, au besoin, en vue d’assurer le succès des soumissions.
- Planifier, gérer et organiser des inspections et des visites de familiarisation sur les sites des clients.
- Fournir une rétroaction au superviseur et aux autres membres supérieurs de l’équipe de Tourisme Ottawa dans l’élaboration des objectifs de vente trimestriels et annuels.
- Agir à titre de personne experte en la matière dans les marchés assignés.
- S’acquitter de toutes les tâches et exigences du poste en agissant avec intégrité, honnêteté et enthousiasme.
- Aider la personne superviseure (ou un autre cadre supérieur, selon les directives) à élaborer et à exécuter des projets et des initiatives organisationnelles, selon les besoins et les directives.
- Jouer un rôle en tant que membre clé du service des Événements d’affaires, pour aider à définir, affiner et défendre les objectifs stratégiques, les priorités opérationnelles et la vision à long terme de l’équipe.
- Travailler en collaboration et en partenariat avec les membres clés de l’équipe de Tourisme Ottawa.
- Travailler en collaboration et en partenariat avec les principaux intervenants externes; gérer les relations avec les intervenants pour maximiser l’impact et le succès.
- Agir en tant qu’ambassadeur ou ambassadrice exemplaire de Tourisme Ottawa lors de tous les événements externes, selon les directives et les besoins.
Qualifications souhaitées
- Études postsecondaires dans une discipline pertinente (administration des affaires, marketing, communications ou finances).
- Cinq ans d’expérience en vente, idéalement dans le domaine des événements d’affaires .
- À l’aise avec la communication interculturelle et les normes du commerce international.
- Solides compétences organisationnelles et administratives.
- Maîtrise de tous les volets du logiciel Microsoft Office; aisance à travailler avec des plateformes de gestion des relations-clients (GRC) et toute autre technologie requise.
- Compétences très élevées en matière de communication et de relations interpersonnelles.
- Excellentes compétences en matière de communication et de relations interpersonnelles écrites et verbales.
- Capacité à travailler avec une supervision limitée, à effectuer plusieurs tâches à la fois et à atteindre les objectifs de vente.
- Engagement fort en faveur du perfectionnement professionnel personnel.
- Capacité à travailler en équipe et volonté d’accroître de manière continue le rendement de l’équipe.
- Aptitudes avérées à établir des partenariats et des relations de travail collaboratives à long terme.
- Expérience démontrée de la vente sur les marchés canadien, américain ou international.
- Capacité de travailler en dehors des heures habituelles de bureau.
- Capacité et admissibilité à voyager à l’étranger et à maintenir un horaire habituel de voyages nationaux et internationaux au nom de l’organisme.
