Emergency Medicine

North Island Hospital Comox Valley is seeking part‑time or full‑time Emergency Medicine Physicians.

Qualifications

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Mandatory
• Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) – Mandatory
• Current College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC) license
• Full Canadian College of Family Practitioners (CCFP) – Emergency Medicine – Mandatory
• Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) – Mandatory
• Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) – Mandatory
• Either CCFP‑EM or FRCPC Emergency certification is welcome.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive emergency care in a 24‑hour Emergency Department.
• Attend all cardiac arrests and code calls for admitted inpatients.
• Serve as Rapid Response Team member for the hospital.
• Participate in trauma care as the local trauma team until transfer to a tertiary centre.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary consultants, including Internal Medicine, Intensive Care, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Urology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Otolaryngology, Radiology and Family Medicine.
• Teach medical students and residents as part of the Family Practice Residency Program.
• Engage in quality improvement initiatives and lead academic projects as an asset to the department.

Schedule & Hours

Full‑time and part‑time positions are available; a minimum of 0.8 FTE is required to support immigration if needed.

Benefits & Compensation

• Recruitment Incentive: up to $10,000 (pro‑rated on FTE)
• Relocation: up to $15,000 (amount based on location relocating from)
• Fee Premium: 6.93%
• Annual Flat Fee: $10,739.52
• CME payments: $2,200 in years 3 and 4 and $4,400 thereafter
