About the Role

Are you passionate about natural resource management, Indigenous governance, and building impactful partnerships? As the Lands Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in leading the Lands Department and advancing strategic initiatives that address complex legal, social, political, and environmental issues. This is your chance to work closely with leadership, including Chief and Council, to shape sustainable land use practices, safeguard treaty rights, and foster collaborative relationships with government agencies, industry leaders, and other Treaty 8 First Nations.

This is a full-time in-person position requiring the successful candidate to be located at the lake, in Chetwynd or Hudson Hope areas. This position is scheduled for 35 hours per week and has an hourly/annual wage between $100,000-$125,000. In addition, there is a robust RRSP program, a comprehensive benefits package, and, if needed, a relocation package. Key Responsibilities Leadership:

  • Provide mentorship and direction to Lands Department staff, ensuring alignment with organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with Chief, Council, and community members to establish land use priorities and strategies.
  • Maintain a positive and supportive work environment while managing team

Program Management:

  • Develop and oversee strategies to protect treaty rights, land use, and environmental
  • Manage agreements and partnerships with governments and industries, ensuring compliance and advocacy for community interests.
  • Lead initiatives to conserve natural resources and uphold air, water, and habitat

Proposal Management:

  • Review land use and conservation project proposals, ensuring alignment with legal and treaty obligations.
  • Oversee legal research and provide insights to inform negotiations with governments and
  • Draft responses to sensitive project queries and facilitate informed decision-making for

Administration, Funding, and Committees:

  • Represent the community on key resource management and land use
  • Manage contracts and funding proposals to support lands and resource
  • Collaborate with external partners to ensure effective and efficient service

Your toolkit includes

  • Post-secondary education in Planning, Natural Resources or related
  • 3 years’ experience in negotiating agreements such as memoranda of understanding, partnerships and joint ventures with industrial resource users.
  • 3 years’ experience related to lands management, environmental management and
  • Effective interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Working knowledge of budgeting, funding and funding
  • Strong negotiation
  • Engaged federal and provincial agencies and their policies and legislation pertaining to Aboriginal land and resource issues.
  • Participated in First Nations, provincial lands/resource stakeholder committees and working groups.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mining, forestry, energy and oil and gas
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal law and understanding on Treaty #8
  • Valid driver’s license & reliable
  • Comply to Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector and may be subject to Drug and Alcohol testing.
