About the Opportunity

This is a fixed-term, project-based opportunity with field work required throughout various locations in and around La Ronge, Saskatchewan over the period of September to December . Reporting to the Project Lead, the Junior Building Condition Assessor will support comprehensive condition assessments on a variety of residential property types for the purpose of assessing building component conditions and lifespan status. This role will work alongside a lead assessor on-site, and remotely with a larger office-based team.

Using a customized data collection tool, you will support building condition assessments according to Community Power’s standards. Building condition results will be used by the customer to inform decisions about future capital planning on a larger scale across many homes.

The successful applicant for this role will be comfortable dealing with regularly changing schedules and field conditions. You work effectively in small, collaborative teams and can drive work forward autonomously when needed. You are approachable, friendly, and able to communicate to home occupants without judgement. Cultural sensitivity and respect when working in Indigenous communities is essential to success in this role.

This position is based remotely and requires extensive travel and field work throughout rural and remote Saskatchewan. The successful applicant must have a flexible schedule which allows them to be away from home for periods of 5–12 consecutive days, if not local to the area.

Core Accountabilities

• Travel to various locations in and around La Ronge, Saskatchewan to support building condition assessments.
• Perform radon and indoor air quality testing in assessed homes using approved equipment and procedures, and accurately document results to support clear reporting and follow-up recommendations.
• Conduct follow-up visits to retrieve radon testing equipment, collect sample data, and document results for reporting.
• Assist the lead assessor in reviewing standard housing components such as foundations, windows and doors, roofs, attics, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems, wall assemblies, and renewable energy systems.

Using mobile software, record assessment findings including the quantity, types, and estimated remaining lifespan of applicable housing components, as directed by the lead assessor.

• Discuss housing concerns and energy-use issues with home occupants that may not be identified through a visual assessment.
• Assist with inspection setup, organizing field notes, photos, testing results, and other assessment information required for reporting.
• Collaborate with Community Power’s team of housing specialists to ensure processes continuously meet key project requirements and outcomes.
• Support in the analysis of aggregate assessment results to identify common issues, trends, and valuable insights for the customer.
• Use a variety of software to support data collection, assessment reporting, internal expense submissions, time tracking, and other tasks.

Qualifications

• Some experience or education related to housing, construction, building maintenance, environmental testing, energy efficiency, or a related field would be an asset.
• Basic understanding of residential building components and building science principles would be an asset.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and the ability to quickly learn new software is required for this role.
• Experience in working with Indigenous and/or remote communities would be an asset.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to follow established procedures is required.
• Must be able to lift or carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation, as required to perform fieldwork and related job duties.

Community members of Lac La Ronge, Hall Lake, and Sucker River are encouraged to apply for this role and will be prioritized for recruitment for this position. Candidates outside of these communities must be willing to commute weekly or temporarily relocate to the region for the full contract duration.
