This role is temporarily eligible for a pay premium above the posted salary range that is reassessed annually.

Job Description

With the expansion of our Québec City office, qualified candidates may work remotely until the office becomes operational. Once established, the role will follow a hybrid working model based out of Québec City.

Department Overview

The GI Pricing and Profitability team is responsible for maintaining the company’s financial health and competitive edge. Leveraging data analysis, actuarial science, and market research, the team ensures profitability while offering fair rates that comply with provincial regulations.

Position Overview

Reporting to a Senior Manager, the Actuarial Specialist provides technical leadership, coaches junior actuaries, and drives project success. The role focuses on innovation, continuous improvement, and delivering measurable business outcomes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Translate pricing methodologies into implementable rating specifications for the new rating engine.
  • Guide and review premium reconciliation between new and legacy engines, quantify impacts, explain drivers, and document acceptable differences.
  • Coach and guide others on best practices for new rate engine pricing implementation.
  • Lead the team in modernizing premium‑setting and rate delivery processes, including simplified workflows, governance, documentation, and approvals.

Job Requirements

  • University degree in Actuarial Sciences or a closely related field.
  • 7+ years in a P&C actuarial function.
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel.
  • Proficiency and interest in programming, notably SQL, R, and/or Python.
  • Advanced analytical, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Autonomous, resilient, and shows initiative and creativity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with predictive modeling.
  • Prior experience with modern rating engine migration.
  • FCIA/FCAS completed or at least 7 Casualty Actuarial Society professional exams.
