About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a Financial Controller to join an established manufacturing organization in Scarborough. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional looking to take the next step in their career, with a clear succession path toward a VP of Finance position. The successful candidate will oversee financial reporting, day-to-day accounting operations, cash flow management, internal controls and a small accounting team. Working closely with senior leadership, they will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of the business while gradually taking on increased responsibility. This opportunity offers a stable working environment, direct exposure to senior leadership and strong potential for long-term career growth.Key Responsibilities
Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, reconciliations and supporting schedules.Manage general ledger accounting, adjusting entries, accruals, inventory valuations, foreign exchange transactions and other accounting activities.Monitor cash flow, working capital and financial performance, providing analysis and recommendations to senior leadership.Oversee inventory accounting, manufacturing costs, labour and material costing, and related financial controls.Review payroll reporting, journal entries and reconciliations, and oversee regulatory reporting including HST, EHT and WSIB.Coordinate the annual external audit and support corporate tax compliance and other statutory reporting requirements.Lead, mentor and support the accounting team, ensuring accuracy, accountability and effective day-to-day operations.Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting processes and financial reporting procedures.Support financial planning, capital expenditure analysis and other key business decisions.Identify opportunities for process improvements, reporting efficiencies and future financial systems enhancements.Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of accounting and finance experience within a manufacturing environment, ideally including experience in an engineer-to-order manufacturing environment.Previous experience in a hands-on accounting leadership or supervisory capacity, ideally as a Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller or Controller.Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.CPA designation or progress toward completion is considered an asset.Strong technical accounting knowledge, including financial reporting, month-end and year-end close, general ledger management and internal controls.Experience with manufacturing accounting, inventory valuation, labour and material costing, and an understanding of production processes.Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with manufacturing ERP or accounting systems.Exposure to ERP implementation or system improvement initiatives is an asset.Experience with cash flow management, financial analysis and foreign currency transactions is an asset.Demonstrated ability to lead and support an accounting team while remaining actively involved in day-to-day accounting activities.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence and professionalism to work closely with senior leadership.Highly organized, dependable and self-motivated, with sound judgment, strong attention to detail and a practical, hands-on approach.A demonstrated history of professional commitment and genuine interest in long-term career growth within an established organization.AI may be used to support certain administrative aspects of our recruitment process.
