Faculty, Nursing

The School of Health and Human Services is seeking two to three nursing instructors to teach in the Selkirk College / University of Victoria Baccalaureate Nursing program. The successful applicants will bring the expertise, teaching ability, and relational skills needed to support student learning in classroom, lab, and/or clinical settings across a range of practice environments.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate learning experiences for BSN students in classroom, lab, and/or clinical settings, including acute, community, and long-term care practice environments
  • Provide timely, constructive written and verbal feedback that supports student growth, confidence, and competence
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with practice partners and colleagues to support high-quality student learning experiences
  • Communicate clearly with practice partners to ensure a shared understanding of course expectations, learning outcomes, and student support needs
  • Deliver engaging face-to-face instruction in classes and seminars and be available to support student learning through consultation and guidance
  • Assess student progress using fair, transparent, and consistent evaluation practices and provide actionable feedback
  • Participate actively in instructional team meetings, course planning, and collaborative approaches to student success

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated teaching experience in nursing education across classroom, clinical, and/or simulation settings (preferred: 3–5 years)
  • A learner-centred philosophy of teaching, learning, and evaluation
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and time management skills
  • Three to five years of recent, relevant nursing practice experience in acute, community, and/or long-term care settings
  • Commitment to contributing to a dynamic, caring, and interactive curriculum that supports student success
  • Demonstrated ability to use evidence-informed teaching strategies that support critical thinking, clinical judgment, and reflective practice in nursing education
  • Ability to create inclusive, supportive learning environments that promote student engagement, cultural safety, and success in diverse post-secondary settings

Education and Experience

  • A Master’s degree in Nursing or a related field is required*
  • An undergraduate BSN degree in Nursing may be considered
  • Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
  • Post-secondary teaching experience in nursing education is strongly preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

These are short-term positions between 50-100% FTE, commencing August 1, 2026, and ending July 31, 2027. Salary and Benefits are in accordance with the SCFA Collective Agreement. The salary range is $2,709.12 - $4,341.23 bi-weekly (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications and experience. Preference will be given to SCFA members who are on layoff status and eligible for recall, as outlined in Articles 5.6 and 5.9 of the SCFA Collective Agreement.
