Senior Civil Engineer (New Build Design) Location: 393 University Ave, Toronto, ON.
Department: Design & Engineering Services (DES).
Reports to: Section Manager, Design and Engineering Services.
Hours per week: 37.5.
Number Required: 3.
Salary Range: $120,000 - $145,000 (exact compensation may vary depending on the individual experience and qualifications of each candidate).
Accountabilities Lead and perform engineering design and analysis for nuclear power plant systems, structures, and components across new build projects and modifications.
Support engineering design development through conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases, ensuring alignment with nuclear safety and regulatory requirements.
Provide engineering and design oversight, including independent technical reviews and vendor design evaluations.
Interface with construction, procurement partners, and utility stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle to deliver practical engineering solutions.
Prepare and review technical specifications and engineering documentation in accordance with applicable nuclear codes and standards.
Support design integration across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring consistency with system design, safety case requirements, and licensing basis.
Support assessments of potential reactor technologies, including assessing designs against applicable laws, regulations, codes, and standards, and participate with design inputs in hazard assessments, safety evaluations, and licensing support activities.
Provide field and site support, including design clarifications and constructability input during project execution.
Support proposal development, scope definition, and technical planning for new build opportunities.
Mentor junior staff and contribute to continuous improvement of design engineering practices.
Stay current with developments in nuclear design standards, codes, and regulatory expectations.

What You Need to Succeed Bachelor's or graduate degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
Minimum 8+ years of relevant engineering experience, including at least 5 years within the nuclear industry.
Demonstrated experience in engineering design and project delivery in a regulated environment.
Strong understanding of nuclear power plant systems and design principles.
Experience with CANDU reactor technology is strongly preferred.
Knowledge of PWRs and/or advanced reactor technologies (e.g., SMRs) is considered an asset.
Nuclear New Build or Nuclear Refurbishment experience will be considered a strong asset.
Candidates must demonstrate working knowledge of relevant nuclear codes, standards, and regulatory requirements, including CSA N287/N289, CSA N285.0, ASME Section III, Section VIII, B31.1, NBCC, S16, A23.
Technical Competencies Experience in system design, engineering analysis, and design documentation development.
Ability to perform or coordinate technical evaluations, design reviews, and independent assessments.
Familiarity with engineering change control processes and project governance.
Experience working with multidisciplinary teams across mechanical, civil, electrical, I&C, and computer disciplines.
Experience in SSC design including specifications and drawings.
Knowledge of relevant engineering tools and analysis software; experience with STAAD, Pro, ANSYS, SAP2000 or equivalent is considered an asset.
Expertise in structural design of steel and concrete structures, seismic engineering analysis and design, and piping supports (nuclear and non-nuclear).
Familiarity with nuclear quality assurance programs (CSA N286, N299).
Professional Requirements Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in Ontario.
Proven ability to work in a project-driven environment, managing competing priorities across scope, schedule, and quality constraints.
Robust written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of technical reports, proposals, and client-facing documentation.
Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary project teams.
Experience supporting licensing, safety case development, or regulatory submissions (e.g., CNSC) is an asset.
Familiarity with international nuclear codes and standards is considered an asset.
Must have experience in a project-driven environment with capability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and within project constraints (time, cost, quality).
Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize assigned work and coordinate multiple activities efficiently.
Strong attention to detail and quality assurance requirements.
Demonstrated experience in preparation of reports, proposals, recommendations and presentations for internal and external clients.
Good time management skills and demonstrated capability to interface effectively with and gain the trust of station customers.
OPG and Bruce Power Security Clearance is an asset.
Travel to site(s) may be required.
This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process.
The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
