About CASA Classrooms
You will be a part of a team that works within community schools, right where children live and learn. The CASA Classrooms program provides individual and group therapy, psychiatric care, medication management and schooling according to each student’s individual need. CASA Classrooms are CASA’s new model for school-based mental health service. The program is delivered in partnership with the Government of Alberta, community partners and school divisions.

Job Details
Wage range: $44.03 to $56.50 per hour + an additional $9/hour CASA Classrooms premium
Vacation: 4.18 hours, accrued bi-weekly
Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day
Primary location: Barrhead School

About the Role
You will be a part of a team that works within community schools, right where children live and learn. CASA Mental Health Classrooms are CASA’s model for school-based mental health service. The program addresses the need for services closer to students by bridging a child’s mental health and school needs, through a coordinated approach by a mental health team and a school team. CASA Mental Health Classrooms are delivered in partnership with the Government of Alberta, community partners and school divisions.

The Mental Health Therapist will:

• Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments of assigned children and youth, and develop individualized and family treatment plans in conjunction with the primary team.
• Develop treatment plans and formulate diagnoses, when applicable, using the DSM-5-TR or other diagnostic tools as appropriate.
• Provide therapeutic interventions to support patients in achieving therapeutic goals using a variety of developmentally-appropriate treatment approaches.
• Arrange and facilitate transition meetings with community schools prior to patient’s discharge from program.
• Complete written discharge summaries to referring Therapist and Psychiatrist to support continuity of care for patients and families.
• Be an active, contributing member of an interprofessional clinical team whose purpose is assessment, treatment, case review and consultation.
• Follow organizational policy and practice regarding admission, discharge and maintenance of health records.
• Facilitate or co-facilitate groups. CASA Classrooms groups are psycho-educational and psychodynamic in context, and use a variety of evidence-based therapeutic modalities (DBT, CBT, motivational interviewing, etc.).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated ability to practice culturally-safe therapeutic interventions.
• Excellent assessment, treatment and case management skills.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, critical thinking and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a collaborative team and to work independently to prioritize responsibilities. 
• Demonstrated analytic and problem-solving ability.
• Ability to work and to communicate in a cooperative and respective manner with all staff.
• Advanced skills with MS Office products, including application to formal writing.

Qualifications and Experience

• Master’s degree in psychology, social work (with psycho-social intervention designation), occupational therapy or, a bachelor’s degree in social work or nursing with a minimum of three years of related experience in an educational or mental health setting.
• A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
• Member in good standing with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT), Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) or College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).
• Experience in cognitive behavioural therapy, family interventions and crisis intervention.
• Training and experience in dialectical behaviour therapy is an asset.

Conditions of Employment

• A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
• A satisfactory Child Intervention Check.
• Must maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) and be physically able to perform all interventions.
