Position: Disability Claims & Underwriting Specialist
Type: Contract
Compensation: $80/hour
Location: Remote
Commitment: 20–40 hours/week
Role Responsibilities
- Design realistic scenarios for short- and long-term disability claims, including elimination periods and claim duration management.
- Create work products such as claim determinations, benefit calculations, and return-to-work plans.
- Write "golden" reference responses at experienced disability-professional quality.
- Grade AI-generated responses for accuracy, evidentiary support, and procedural fairness.
- Identify and correct misapplied disability definitions and unsupported conclusions.
- Provide written feedback to improve model behavior.
Qualifications
Must-Have
- 2+ years of experience in disability claims adjudication, underwriting, or vocational rehabilitation.
- Experience with at least one program type, such as group short-term disability.
- Understanding of contract definitions, elimination periods, and benefit periods.
- Ability to weigh medical, occupational, and financial evidence.
- Excellent written analysis, judgment, and attention to detail.
- Ability to distinguish claim adjudication from clinical decisions.
Preferred
- CRC , CDMS , CCM , CPDM , RN , or comparable credential.
- Experience with ERISA records, appeals, or litigation support.
- Experience with individual disability income underwriting.
- Coordination experience with Social Security or workers compensation.
- Experience with FMLA, state leave programs, or ADA accommodations.
Start Date
