Production Support Specialist (Mainframe)

What You'll Do

• Provide L2/L3 production support for business-critical banking and payment applications operating in highly available mainframe environments.
• Lead incident investigation, service recovery, and escalation activities to restore disrupted services quickly and safely.
• Coordinate with business users, technology teams, infrastructure groups, vendors, and global stakeholders during production incidents.
• Monitor production systems, analyze batch processing issues, investigate application failures, and perform root cause analysis to prevent recurring issues.
• Participate in problem management activities, post-incident reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Create and maintain support documentation, operational procedures, runbooks, and knowledge articles.
• Support change management, release management, disaster recovery testing, patching activities, and production deployments.
• Review production changes for operational readiness and identify risks during planning and implementation phases.
• Work closely with globally distributed teams across multiple regions and provide support outside standard business hours as required.
• Ensure adherence to organizational controls, governance requirements, and regulatory standards.

What You'll Need to Succeed

• 5+ years of experience in Production Support, Application Support, or IT Service Management within Banking, Financial Services, or other regulated environments.
• Strong Mainframe experience with CICS, COBOL, DB2, JCL, MQ, SPUFI, TWS/OPC or similar scheduling tools.
• Experience troubleshooting production incidents, batch failures, application issues, and service disruptions in complex enterprise environments.
• Solid understanding of Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management, Release Management, and Disaster Recovery processes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis and drive issue resolution.
• Experience supporting high-availability systems and mission-critical business applications.
• Familiarity with SQL, Oracle, Unix/Linux, Java/J2EE, MQ, and WebSphere/Open Systems environments.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, Geneos, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, or similar platforms.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively in global virtual teams.
• ITIL certification or equivalent service management experience is highly desirable.
• Exposure to Corporate Banking, Payments, Transaction Processing, or Capital Markets environments is considered an asset.
• Familiarity with AI productivity tools such as Copilot, Claude, or similar technologies is an asset.
