Survey Manager (Tunnel Construction Project)

Protecnium is an international firm specializing in engineering and technical services () . We are currently seeking a Survey Manager to join our team on a Tunnel Construction Project in Vancouver, Canada (on-site position).

-Estimated duration of the position: 1 year .   In general, when the project ends, we try to place the employee on other projects to give him/her continuity.

-Summary: The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, proven leadership, and a strong track record of delivering high-precision survey operations on complex, multidisciplinary projects. We are seeking a strong communicator who can lead survey activities across multiple site locations, develop survey methodology plans for the PMT, and has experience with the Trimble SX12 total station, TBC for generating tunnel reports, and the Leica TS16 with the VMT guidance system. The candidate should also have working knowledge of Star*Net for traverse adjustments

-Responsibilities:

• Lead and coordinate all survey activities for tunnel, underground, and heavy civil construction works.
• Manage survey teams, resources, schedules, and project priorities.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and performance oversight to survey personnel.
• Establish and maintain project survey control networks and quality assurance systems.
• Oversee high-precision construction surveying, including tunnel guidance systems, VMT guidance, drill-and-blast alignment, and underground control.
• Ensure exceptional tunnelling breakthrough accuracy through advanced survey methodologies and control network design.
• Conduct monitoring surveys including settlement, convergence, deformation, and instrumentation monitoring.
• Develop and implement Survey Method Statements, procedures, and best practices.
• Perform and supervise topographic, traverse, construction, as-built, and monitoring surveys.
• Manage survey equipment calibration, maintenance, and operational readiness.
• Oversee survey data processing, calculations, quality control, and digital record management.
• Implement advanced geomatics technologies including 3D laser scanning, BIM/GIS integration, automated feature extraction, and AI-assisted data processing.
• Produce and validate survey models, digital deliverables, and engineering-grade datasets.
• Collaborate with engineering, construction, and project management teams to support project delivery.
• Ensure compliance with project specifications, regulatory requirements, and health and safety standards.
• Support budgeting, procurement, forecasting, and resource planning for survey operations.

-Requirements:

• Minimum 8 years of experience as a Survey Manager on tunnel, underground, or heavy civil construction projects.
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience leading survey teams on complex infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of survey principles, standards, and engineering design practices.
• Proficiency with GPS, total stations, and tunnel guidance systems.
• Advanced experience with survey software, including Civil 3D, Cyclone 3DR, ReCap, Trimble Business Center, Leica Infinity, MicroSurvey, and Star*Net.
• Experience with 3D laser scanning, automated feature extraction, AI-assisted processing, and BIM/GIS integration.
• Familiarity with job site health and safety regulations.
• Valid driver's license.
• BCLS designation, or eligibility to obtain it.
• Certified Professional Engineering Surveyor (CPES), Mine Surveyor Certificate of Competency (CoC), or equivalent professional certification.

-Working hours : 9 hours daily.
