Opportunity

As a Senior Rock Mechanics Engineer, you will shape complex tunneling and rock excavation projects that enable major infrastructure, energy, and transportation systems across Canada. Your expertise will help clients navigate challenging geology, optimize constructability, and deliver safe, resilient underground works that serve communities for generations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multi‑disciplinary design efforts for tunneling, rock cuts, and stabilization works from concept to IFC deliverables.
  • Direct and review geotechnical investigations, tunnel alignment assessments, geostructural analyses, and excavation support design.
  • Evaluate and optimize engineering solutions through risk mitigation, value engineering, and constructability reviews.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, discipline leads, and clients to align scope, budgets, schedules, and technical requirements.
  • Apply advanced rock mechanics methodologies to solve complex subsurface challenges in varied geological environments.
  • Provide senior technical oversight on calculations, drawings, specifications, and design reports to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Support site teams with occasional travel for reconnaissance, assessments, and construction‑phase engineering.
  • Mentor, coach, and guide junior and intermediate engineers to elevate team capability and grow technical excellence.
  • Foster strong client relationships and participate in industry engagement, proposals, and presentations.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive rock mechanics experience in consulting, tunneling, rock excavation, or ground engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geological, Mining, or Civil Engineering with a focus in rock mechanics; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience delivering large‑scale tunnel and rock stabilization projects through all project phases.
  • Proficiency with geotechnical and rock mechanics software (e.g., numerical modelling, stability analysis, ground–structure interaction tools).
  • Strong analytical, critical‑thinking, and problem‑solving abilities applied in complex technical environments.
  • Clear, concise technical writing skills with proven experience developing geotechnical and design reports.
  • Active member of Engineers & Geoscientists BC (EGBC); ability to travel as required.
  • Valid driver’s licence.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $104,100 – $138,000

MB & ON: $95,000 – $130,800

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $94,100 – $124,900
