POSITION SUMMARY
The Controller & Director, Corporate Services serves as the organization's senior financial leader and principal advisor on financial stewardship, organizational sustainability, corporate infrastructure, risk management, technology governance, and administrative services As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Controller & Director, Corporate Services partners closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and organizational leaders to ensure the organization's long-term financial sustainability, operational effectiveness, and strategic growth. This role provides leadership across financial planning, budgeting, investments, enterprise risk management, information technology, facilities administration, and corporate compliance. The Controller & Director, Corporate Services translates complex financial and operational information into actionable insights that support strategic decision-making, strengthen organizational sustainability, advance the mission of keeping families close, and help guide Ronald McDonald House Southwestern Ontario through future growth, capital redevelopment initiatives, organizational expansion, and long-term sustainability. The Controller & Director, Corporate Services is expected to operate as both a strategic advisor and operational leader, maintaining direct oversight of accounting, audit, reporting, and financial stewardship functions while providing leadership across the broader corporate services portfolio. Strategic Financial Leadership
- Serve as the organization's senior financial advisor to the CEO and Senior Leadership Team.
- Lead long-term financial planning and sustainability strategies.
- Develop financial models and scenario analyses to support strategic initiatives, capital projects, and organizational growth.
- Identify emerging financial opportunities and risks and provide recommendations to leadership.
- Support organizational planning through financial forecasting, performance measurement, benchmarking, and business intelligence.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting activities.
- Serve as the organization's senior accounting officer, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of all financial records and reporting.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes and ensure timely preparation of financial statements.
- Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and meaningful financial reporting to management, the Finance Committee, and the Board of Directors.
- Monitor cash flow, liquidity, reserves, and investment performance.
- Develop and maintain organizational financial dashboards and key performance indicators.
- Ensure strong internal controls and financial accountability across the organization.
- Ensure accounting practices comply with applicable accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
- Lead annual audit and year-end processes.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, charitable regulations, and applicable legislation.
- Oversee tax filings, regulatory reporting, and financial compliance requirements.
- Support Board governance through the preparation of reports, policies, and recommendations.
- Serve as staff lead to the Finance Committee and support other Board committees as required.
- Collaborate closely with the Associate Director, People & Culture to support workforce planning, compensation and benefits administration, organizational policy development, and strategic people initiatives.
- Provide financial analysis and planning support related to compensation, benefits, workforce investments, and organizational growth.
- Partner on organizational planning initiatives to ensure alignment between financial sustainability and people strategies.
- Lead the organization's enterprise risk management framework.
- Maintain and continuously improve the organizational Risk Register.
- Monitor organizational, operational, financial, cybersecurity, and compliance risks.
- Support business continuity planning and organizational resilience initiatives.
- Oversee organizational insurance programs and broker relationships.
- Provide strategic oversight of Information Technology, Corporate Policies, Procurement and Vendor Management, Administrative Systems, Data Governance, and Records Management.
- Partner with organizational leaders to provide strategic direction and coordination of Facilities Administration.
- Ensure systems, processes, and infrastructure support organizational effectiveness and future growth.
- Develop and implement a multi-year technology roadmap.
- Ensure information systems effectively support organizational priorities.
- Champion data-informed decision making across the organization.
- Oversee cybersecurity, data protection, and information governance practices.
- Support integration and optimization of organizational systems and reporting platforms.
- Support planning and financial oversight of capital redevelopment and expansion initiatives.
- Provide financial analysis and business case development for major capital investments.
- Oversee organizational investment policies and asset management practices.
- Monitor long-term capital replacement and asset management planning.
- Serve as an active member of the Senior Leadership Team.
- Foster collaboration across departments and functions.
- Build strong relationships with the Board, Finance Committee, auditors, investment advisors, banks, government funders, and external partners.
- Promote a culture of accountability, service excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Embed inclusion and belonging principles into all aspects of corporate services, fostering an inclusive and equitable environment.
- Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in all mission-focused activities of Ronald McDonald House Southwestern Ontario.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required and in good standing.
- Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, corporate services, or related functions, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience leading accounting, audit, and financial reporting functions within a complex organizational environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in financial management, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, audit coordination, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
- Proven experience supporting executive leadership, Boards of Directors, Finance Committees, and governance bodies through strategic financial analysis, reporting, and decision support.
- Strong understanding of not-for-profit and charitable accounting principles, fund accounting, restricted funding management, and CRA reporting requirements.
- Experience overseeing organizational risk management, insurance programs, investment portfolios, banking relationships, and financial stewardship activities.
- Demonstrated experience leading organizational change, process improvement initiatives, technology implementations, and systems optimization projects.
- Experience developing organizational dashboards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and executive reporting tools that support data-informed decision-making.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial modelling, forecasting, dashboard development, pivot tables, advanced formulas, and data analysis.
- Experience with Financial Edge NXT, Raiser's Edge NXT, Payworks, Microsoft Power BI, or similar financial, fundraising, business intelligence, and human resource information systems is considered an asset.
- Strategic Financial Leadership: Ability to leverage financial insights, forecasting, and analysis to support organizational sustainability, informed decision-making, and strategic growth.
