The Environmental Science and Climate Change Division is responsible for the environmental review of major projects, monitoring the air and water resources of New Brunswick, addressing climate change mitigation and adaptation, policy direction and legislative agenda development for the department. It provides scientific assessment and environmental protection advice and reports on the state of the environment, leads initiatives promoting the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the adaptation to impacts of climate change, develops programs and policies, and provides technical, scientific and engineering support. This includes interpreting, evaluating and maintaining awareness of research and developments in environmental health and climate issues and initiatives on behalf of the department. The division consists of the following branches: Climate Change and Sciences, Environmental Impact Assessment, Healthy Environments, Policy, and Strategic Policy Initiatives.

What you will do? Reporting to the Director of the Healthy Environments Branch, the successful candidates will be the focal point for drinking water protection (both ground and surface water sources) and watershed management in the regions. The incumbents will serve as the principal liaison between the Department¿s Source Water Section and the regional offices, and with other government departments and stakeholders, concerning drinking water protection and watershed management issues. The incumbents will be responsible for: coordinating activities for program implementation and delivery in the regions and the provision of regional and local input to planning and compliance processes; interacting with watershed and wellfield landowners, other stakeholders, and community groups regarding the delivery of the drinking water programs and compliance activities associated with the Clean Water Act.

Essential qualifications University degree in Science, Forestry or environmental management and a minimum of four (4) years related work experience. Possession of a valid New Brunswick Class 5 driver's license is also required.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.

Asset Qualifications Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate one or more of the following asset qualifications:

  • Experience with regulatory compliance, water protection or watershed management.

Operational Requirements Travel throughout the province is required. A valid Class 5 driver¿s license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick is required.

Wage

Pay Band 4: $2,271 to $3,176 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week.

Work environment

  • Office location: 65 Broadway Boulevard, Grand Falls, NB
  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30 (office schedule)
