ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Registered Dietitian to support clients across inpatient mental health and long-term care settings, including the Mental Health Rehabilitation Program and Hogarth Riverview Manor. In this role, you will provide comprehensive nutrition and dietetic services, working collaboratively with clients, residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams to promote nutritional wellness, optimize health outcomes, and enhance quality of life. You will be responsible for individualized nutrition assessment, care planning, and education, while ensuring alignment with best practices, regulatory standards, and resident- and client-centered care principles. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to support recovery, independence, and dignity by guiding individuals through nutritional management and fostering comfort, enjoyment of food, and overall well-being.

WHAT YOU BRING

Education/Experience:

  • Registered Dietitian in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
  • A minimum of three years of practical experience in clinical dietetics
  • Experience working in an inpatient mental health setting with individuals of diverse backgrounds is preferred

Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the needs of clients with moderate to severe mental illness as well as issues related to chronic pain is preferred
  • Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) and recovery principles is preferred
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (Mental Health Act Health Care Consent Act OHSA etc) is preferred
  • Knowledge of relevant community partners agencies and relevant resources
  • Ability to work within the appropriate standards of practice and evidence-based best practices
  • Ability to conduct nutrition assessments and provide relevant treatment that accurately reflect client nutritional risk factors (which include age) in relation to their medical and/or psychiatric condition and related treatment/wellness plan
  • Knowledge of age and culturally appropriate nutrition therapy
  • Knowledge of theories and principles of food preparation and safety menu planning and nutrient analysis
  • Ability to carry out all electronic documentation in a timely manner
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated positive interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience working collaboratively with an interprofessional team and also the ability to work independently
  • Ability to problem solve using sound judgment and critical thinking skills within safe limits of client care
  • Seeks professional development activities to maintain and advance knowledge base
  • Excellent assessment counseling and teaching skills
  • Knowledge of relevant community agencies and resources
  • Demonstrated regular attendance at work

Assets:

  • Experience in individual and group nutritional counseling and education. Craving Change certification or equivalent would be an asset
  • Experience leading nutrition projects/initiatives would be an asset

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)  where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
