SUMMARY
The Shipper is responsible for handling the packing, loading and shipping of finished goods. Responsibilities include ensuring shipments are properly tagged, bagged or boxed and ensuring orders are received in a timely manner. This is a highly physical role requiring the loading and unloading of shipments on a regular basis, using any necessary equipment such as a lift truck, forklift, etc.
This role is best suited to a detail-oriented, organized team player who enjoys physical activity and takes pride in their work. Keeping parts flowing through the organization furthers Keilhauer's mission of making work comfortable for all.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures all outgoing shipments meet Keilhauer's shipping standards.
- Packs, labels, loads and ships finished goods accurately and on-schedule to ensure customers receive clean, undamaged products on time.
- Prepares shipments by tagging, bagging, boxing and assembling packaging materials as required.
- Uses appropriate tools and equipment, including dollies, air hoses, staple guns, tape and shipping systems, to complete shipping tasks safely and efficiently.
- Maintains an organized shipping area, supports product flow and helps create space as needed.
- Support new or temporary employees and contributes as a reliable team member within and across teams.
- Maintains a clean, safe and organized shipping area while following Company, OHSA and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Inspects equipment, identifies quality concerns and reports non-conformance or unacceptable materials and components.
- Reinforces good housekeeping practices, safe work habits and Keilhauer's core values.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience working in Shipping/Receiving/Warehouse in a fast-paced manufacturing environment is an asset.
- Completion of high school or training/education from a vocational/trade school is an asset.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office required.
- A valid forklift license, or willingness/ability to obtain license, is required.
- Must be able to perform physical activities and handle products of various geometry and weight.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND INTELLECTUAL REQUIREMENTS
Communication: Must be able to read and write in English; speak English or communicate using American Sign Language (ASL); and work collaboratively while communicating effectively with others.
Mobility: Must be able to regularly reach, bend, pull, push, stretch and lift; load and unload products from trucks using provided equipment; stand for extended periods on a cement floor; operate a forklift; move throughout the production/warehouse facility; handle products of various shapes and weights; and assist in other areas as business needs require.
Manual Dexterity & Coordination: Must have the strength, dexterity and coordination to regularly lift up to 45 kg; use hands, wrists, fingers and legs to operate a forklift or lifting device; and grip and use a staple gun, tape gun and other hand tools.
Vision: Must have sufficient visual acuity to inspect product quality, fulfill orders accurately and read the daily schedule , including close, distance and colour vision , and the ability to focus.
Cognitive Ability: Must be able to read and interpret work guidelines, safety instructions and operating manuals; understand forklift safety and proper lifting techniques; learn new skills; apply common sense; and follow written and/or verbal instructions.

WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee spends 100% of their time in the production/shipping environment, where they may be exposed to airborne dust particles and noise. Significant sensory attention is required to perform in this position as the employee needs to be aware of what is always going on around them. The employee may also be subject to cold temperatures in the winter and hot temperatures in the summer when opening and closing the shipping doors. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- May be required to work at any Keilhauer location or help with other functional areas as the need arises.
- Must be capable of multi-tasking and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment when required (ex. ear plugs, safety shoes, etc.)
- Must maintain a sense of urgency under tight deadlines.
- Must be willing to participate in training relevant to the position or industry.
- May occasionally be required to work overtime to meet business needs.
- Follows all company and OHSA safety regulations; works in a safe manner, reinforces housekeeping and Keilhauer's core values.
