Wood is recruiting a Vessel Control Systems Operator (Control Room Operator) to join its Operations team focusing on the oil and gas petrochemical industry. This opportunity is offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, working on a regular rotation.

The Role

• Location: Offshore Newfoundland and Labrador
• Site / Office based: Terra Nova FPSO
• Hours of work: 12 hours per day
• Rotation / work pattern: 21 day on - 21 day off rotation
• Required: Site specific medical, drug and alcohol testing
• Unionized position: Rates follow the Collective Bargaining Agreement

You will be working in confined spaces and/or at heights, as well as noisy conditions. Work may be indoors or outdoors, and at extreme temperatures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Typical responsibilities:

• Monitor and control various FPSO systems
• Operate the thruster assisted positioning mooring system
• Handle cargo and ballast operations, and distribute and control inert gas to cargo and ballast tanks
• Support crude oil washing operations
• Oversee shuttle tanker operations during cargo transfers
• Maintain awareness and control of field traffic movements
• Maintain communications with the production control system operator
• Participate in the emergency response team
• Maintain GMDSS radio watch from CCR (Nightshift)

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills And Qualifications: What makes you remarkable?

Requirements

• A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
• Two or more years of experience with tanker and exposure to the offshore oil and gas environment
• Experience in dynamic positioning systems and Canadian East Coast ice management procedures is an asset
• Chief Mate Unlimited certification
• Restricted Radio Telephone certificate with Global Maritime Distress and Safety System
• (GMDSS)
• Crude Oil Washing certificate and Inert Gas certificates would be assets
• Marine Emergency Duties (MED)
• Effective verbal and written communication skills

Preference for:

• Bachelor's Degree in Maritime Studies or Diploma in Nautical Science
• Specialized Oil Tanker Endorsement (level two)
• Rigging and Banksman certification
• Trained as Coxswain
• Knowledge of helicopter landing operations and aviation weather reporting

Other important information

• Must pass a site-specific drug and alcohol test, as required by the customer
• Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50lbs
• Must possess enough strength and stamina to perform the technical duties and essential functions as identified above
• Able to meet physical requirements of frequent walking, climbing, standing, bending, twisting and crawling for the duration of the shift
• Qualified residents of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador will be given first consideration in the staffing of this position

• Basic Survival Training (BST) including HUET and HUEBA
• Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) Alive
• Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS 2015)
• Offshore Safety Regulatory Awareness

• Emergency First Aid
