Compensation Details:

• Underwriter 18: Salaries typically range from $96,557 to $128,743 annually, based on qualifications and experience, plus a performance-based incentive.
• Underwriter 19: Salaries typically range from $112,006 to $149,341 annually, based on qualifications and experience, plus a performance-based incentive.

Location: 

• Export Development Canada operates under a hybrid work model, with employees currently required to work from the office three days per week.
• This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Brossard, Laval, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, or Vancouver .

Team Overview:

The International Trade Guarantee (ITG) – Corporate and Global Accounts (CGA) team delivers innovative risk transfer and working capital solutions that help Canadian companies compete and grow both domestically and internationally. Through partnerships with financial institutions and surety providers, ITG enables clients to access financing, bonding, foreign exchange facilities, and other critical support while preserving liquidity and balance sheet capacity.

Our team supports companies across a wide range of industries with a focus on large national and global enterprises. We combine sound financial analysis & underwriting practices, commercial judgment, and customer focus to facilitate business growth while managing risk responsibly. What you will be doing: 

As an ITG Underwriter, you will assess, structure, and recommend transactions that support Canadian companies through EDC's suite of guarantee and risk transfer products. You will exercise sound credit and underwriting judgment to balance risk and development impact while delivering responsive solutions that meet client and partner needs by:

• Conducting comprehensive financial analysis, including assessment of financial statements, cash flow generation, leverage, liquidity, debt service capacity, and other key credit metrics to evaluate company strength and repayment capacity.
• Analyzing financial, industry, transactional, and qualitative information to identify, assess, and mitigate credit, underwriting, and portfolio risks.
• Structuring and recommending new and existing ITG facilities, guarantees, and related solutions based on risk-adjusted assessments and sound underwriting principles, within delegated authority limits.
• Preparing high-quality underwriting assessments, risk analyses, recommendations, and approval documentation that clearly articulate key risks, mitigants, and rationale for credit decisions.
• Exercising sound risk-based judgment in evaluating transactions and balancing credit risk, policy objectives, portfolio considerations, and customer outcomes.
• Identifying emerging risks, adverse trends, financial deterioration, and underwriting concerns, and recommending appropriate risk mitigation strategies or escalation where required.
• Collaborating with Business Development, Portfolio Management, Product Management, Operations, and Risk Management stakeholders to assess risk exposures and deliver timely, well-structured solutions.
• Engaging with financial institutions, brokers, surety partners, and customers to understand business models, financial performance, risk drivers, and transaction requirements.
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen underwriting quality, risk governance, consistency of credit decisions, and operational effectiveness.
• Supporting knowledge sharing and collaboration to enhance the team's financial analysis, underwriting expertise, risk management capability, and customer experience.
• Maintaining a strong understanding of financial analysis techniques, ITG products, underwriting standards, portfolio risk management practices, market developments, and EDC policies.

What we are looking for: 

• Bachelor of Commerce in Business, Finance or Accounting (or equivalent education/experience) 
• Minimum of 7 years (Underwriter 18) and 10 years (Underwriter 19) of recent experience in commercial/corporate banking, surety underwriting or transaction structuring
• Knowledge of commercial lending practices, common financing structures, and security
• Strong credit analysis, risk assessment and negotiation skills

What will make you stand out: 

• Prior underwriting experience in international guarantees, bank guarantee instruments or surety bonds
• Completion of an MBA (or equivalent post-graduate degree in related discipline eg. CFA)
• Bilingual (English & French) is a strong asset
• Experience in Continuous Improvement
