Nanny Wanted - Seeking A Connection Focused Learning Mentor For An Amazing 11 Year Old. North Vancouver Area.

I’m an Educational Coordinator supporting a North Vancouver family as they build a small, collaborative home-learning team for their almost 11-year-old son. We’re looking for a Learning Mentor / 1:1 Support Person who can become a consistent, trusted person in his life. While this position includes supporting home learning, this is not a traditional teaching or tutoring role. Connection comes first. We’re hoping to find someone who enjoys taking the time to genuinely get to know a child, explore their interests alongside them, and build learning into everyday experiences. A day might include working on a creative project, heading outside to explore, visiting somewhere in the community, diving deeply into a favourite interest, practicing communication, or gently supporting academic learning when he is ready. He is autistic, minimally speaking, has apraxia, and currently benefits from a neurodiversity-affirming, low-demand approach. His family is also beginning to explore Spelling to Communicate (S2C), so openness to learning, training, and collaborating around communication support is important. We’re looking for someone who is warm, patient, playful, dependable, curious, and comfortable thinking beyond traditional ideas of what learning “should” look like. The ability to meet him where he is, respect his autonomy, and build trust gradually is much more important to us than arriving with a rigid educational agenda. Experience supporting autistic or neurodivergent children would be an asset. Candidates may come from backgrounds such as education, Educational Assistance, Child and Youth Care, disability support, nannying, recreation, or other child-focused work. Formal teaching credentials are not required. You’ll be part of a team that includes his parents, Educational Coordinator, educational program, and other supports. You will not be expected to independently create or manage his curriculum. Instead, we’re looking for someone who can help bring his learning plan into everyday life while contributing their own creativity, observations, and ideas. Location: North Vancouver, BC Schedule: Weekday daytime hours, Monday–Friday. We are open to building the schedule around the right people, so candidates do not necessarily need to be available all five days.
