GEM Health Care Group is seeking a collaborative, highly organized, and service-oriented Facility Manager to join the team at the Whitehills Long Term Care Centre.

The Role


The Facility Manager provides leadership for a broad portfolio of facility, environmental, and support service functions. This position ensures the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of Whitehills Long Term Care Centre while supporting a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement. The Facility Manager oversees key operational areas including environmental services, housekeeping, laundry, dietary support functions, building infrastructure, procurement activities, contractor management, safety compliance, and select administrative responsibilities.


The role requires a highly organized leader who can balance strategic priorities with day-to-day operational demands while fostering strong relationships with staff, vendors, unions, and external partners. Candidates with leadership experience in hospitality, military, health care, logistics, operations, facilities management, or similarly complex service environments are encouraged to apply.



Key Areas of Leadership and Oversight

• Facility Operations & Infrastructure: Lead the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of building systems, equipment, grounds, and physical assets while ensuring facilities remain functional, resident-focused, and compliant with applicable standards.
• Environmental & Support Services Leadership: Provide oversight and support to housekeeping, laundry, dietary support, maintenance, and related operational teams to ensure high-quality service delivery across the facility.
• Health, Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to health and safety legislation, security protocols, maintenance standards, accreditation requirements, and long-term care regulations through inspections, monitoring, and continuous improvement activities.
• Vendor, Contract & Resource Management: Manage procurement activities, contractor relationships, service agreements, inventory controls, budgets, and operational resources to maximize efficiency and value.
• People and Culture Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and develop staff while fostering collaboration, supporting labour relations activities, coordinating training initiatives, and driving operational improvements across multiple service areas.

The Ideal Candidate


The ideal candidate is an adaptable and hands-on operational leader who thrives in a multifaceted environment. They bring strong people leadership skills, sound judgment, and the ability to coordinate diverse functions while maintaining a focus on resident experience, safety, and service quality. Success in this role requires an individual who is equally comfortable leading teams, managing vendors and contractors, overseeing budgets, supporting unionized environments, and responding to the evolving needs of a long-term care facility.


The successful candidate will excel at balancing competing priorities, building positive relationships, and ensuring operational excellence across all areas of responsibility. Experience gained in hospitality, military operations, facilities management, health care, transportation, logistics, or other complex service-based organizations would be considered a strong asset.



Qualifications and Experience


While the Search Committee recognizes that no one candidate is likely to meet all qualifications in equal measure, those listed below are desirable and will be used to compare candidates.

• Post-secondary education in facilities management, engineering, business administration, operations management, logistics, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
• Professional certifications such as Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or other relevant facility, maintenance, safety, or operations-related designations are considered assets.
• Five or more years of progressive leadership experience in facilities management, hospitality, health care, military, logistics, transportation, property management, or a related operational environment.
• Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple operational functions including maintenance, environmental services, housekeeping, procurement, contractor management, budgets, and staff supervision.
• Experience managing workplace safety programs, regulatory compliance requirements, and preventative maintenance initiatives.
• Knowledge of building systems, infrastructure operations, HVAC, mechanical systems, and facility maintenance practices.
• Experience working within unionized environments and participating in labour relations activities is considered an asset.
• Familiarity with long-term care, senior living, health care, hospitality, or other highly regulated service environments is preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with maintenance, inventory, payroll, or operational management systems.
• English language proficiency is required.
