Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist I will provide clinical services as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary team for Carbonear General Hospital and Private Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion.

The Occupational Therapist will provide services to Private Josiah Squib Memorial utilizing their knowledge of the physical, cognitive, social and emotional components of the person, occupational participation and environment, to provide assessments and interventions appropriate for successful participation for the residents and their caregivers.

The Occupational Therapist will provide services to acute care at Carbonear General Hospital providing assessment, treatment, discharge planning and education to clients and their caregivers.

The Occupational Therapist will work with and be responsible to supervise Occupational Therapy Support Worker. The OT will be responsible to precept Occupational Therapy students and offer other clinical education experience to students within Eastern Health.

This position receives clinical support and mentoring from the Occupational Therapist III. This position reports to the Regional Manager of Allied Health and maintains accountability to the Occupational Therapy Professional Practice Consultant for professional integrity and practice issues.

Fine finger/precision is required on a regular basis when performing work on the computer

Visual and auditory concentration is regularly required as well as higher than normal levels of attentiveness or alertness.

Job Qualifications

Graduate of a school or program of occupational therapy recognized by the board.

Current licensure with the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Therapy Board.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with interprofessional team members, patients/residents/clients and their families in a one-to-one and group environment.

Demonstrated effective written communication skills required for client documentation and report writing.

Demonstrated effective time management skills.

Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise and mentor Occupational Therapy Support Workers and students.

Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of an interprofessional team.

Proven ability to assume professional responsibility for safe, ethical and effective practice.

A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
