Co-op Winter 2027 Software Engineering 4-8 months

In this role students support software development activities for mission-critical systems within the Air & Naval Sonar Systems group. Students gain hands-on experience in software design implementation testing and documentation under the guidance of senior engineers. This position provides exposure to the full software development lifecycle and modern development practices including object-oriented programming and test-driven development.

In this role you can expect to:

• Assist in the design analysis and implementation of software features to meet system requirements.
• Develop maintain and document software in languages such as C C Java and Python.
• Support integration of software with third-party equipment and internal systems including analyzing interface specifications.
• Participate in software testing including unit integration and verification tests and document results under guidance.
• Prepare technical documentation such as requirements design notes test plans and reports following standard templates.
• Investigate system problem reports support root cause analysis and assist in resolving software issues.
• Maintain the codebase in accordance with coding standards and configuration management practices.
• Collaborate with team members share ideas and present work during design or peer reviews.
• Support internal customers and contribute to high-level integration and qualification testing.

Qualifications :

What You Need to Have to Succeed

• Currently pursuing a bachelors degree in Software Engineering Computer Engineering Electrical Engineering Computer Science or a related technical/scientific field.
• Understanding of Software Engineering principles and software development lifecycle.
• Strong analytical problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Enthusiastic motivated and willing to learn under guidance from senior engineers.

What Makes You Stand Out

• Experience with programming or scripting languages such as C C Java or Python.
• Exposure to object-oriented programming and test-driven development.
• Familiarity with software testing concepts verification and validation.
• Experience with technical writing and documentation.
• Knowledge of configuration management and version control tools such as Git.
• Exposure to integration with third-party equipment or system interfaces.
• Experience working with or familiarity with AI/ML models.

Additional Information :

Compensation 
The expected hourly rate for this position is $24.92 - $33.23. Final compensation will be determined based on your relevant work experience to date. As part of student placement you will be eligible for quarterly pay increases.
