As a Database Curator, you bring at least 1 year of recent experience or equivalent education/training with data entry, records maintenance, and other related activities. You pair that with a solid understanding of community services across BC. You are able to provide detailed research and information summaries.

The Database Curator is responsible for collecting, entering, and maintaining information on human services for the 211 British Columbia community information database and its derived products. The database is a critical component of the free helpline services and public access search directory provided by the 211 Division of United Way BC.

*This is a temporary full-time role scheduled to end March 31, 2027, and it may be subject to extension or early conclusion

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain the 211 British Columbia community services information databases by:
    • Identifying resources that require updating
    • Connecting with the appropriate contact person for each resource
    • Requesting relevant and up-to-date information by telephone &/or electronically
    • Abstracting information from relevant print and electronic sources
    • Creating and updating resource records in the database through data entry
    • Making new and updated information available to United Way BC 211 staff
  • Assist with the production of all publications at United Way BC 211, which includes the Directory of Services for the British Columbia, by preparing, copy editing, and proofreading
  • Participate in the development and implementation of an indexing system for human services
  • Remain informed about community services in Metro Vancouver and throughout British Columbia
  • Represent United Way BC on committees, meetings, or promotional undertakings as assigned
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and events, and workshops hosted by United Way BC as required
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, proposals, correspondence, statistics, and documentation of resources and publications procedures
  • Perform other duties as required

Education

  • Community College certificate in library and information studies, human services, or equivalent combination of training/experience/education.
  • Requirement to attain and maintain AIRS Resource Specialist– Database Curator certification.

Experience

  • One year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Data entry experience, keyboarding 45 words per minute.
  • Publishing and proofreading experience an asset.
  • Ability to research, summarize, and organize information, giving exact attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of community services in British Columbia.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure, and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work under supervision and independently, and to work co-operatively.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public and community agencies.
  • Competent computer skills and knowledge of MS Outlook and Word.
  • May answer Information & Referral lines, if trained, on occasion.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm.
  • Some hours outside of business hours may be available.
  • Remote working from a home office location will be necessary.

This is a bargaining unit role with CUPE Local 1936. This position is at pay grid level 11 which is $27.85 hourly.
