Our Team
Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey's Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.
The Utilities Maintenance team consists of a combination of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers and a variety of Industrial Trades fulfilling our Maintenance Technician, Apprentice, and Planning roles. The team is responsible for providing both preventative and corrective maintenance across the Voisey's Bay Mine Site including the Port Facilities, Material Handling and Conveyor Equipment, Major and Minor HVAC systems, Accommodations and Service Complex buildings, as well as Power Generation Facilities and Infrastructure.
The Opportunity
Vale recognizes the Impacts and Benefits Agreements with the Innu Nation and the Nunatsiavut Government in which Innu and Inuit workers have first preference for employment at the Voisey's Bay Mine Site. This is guided by an adjacency principle that first gives preference to those who live on the coast of Labrador, followed by those residing in the rest of Labrador, those residing on the island of the province, followed by the rest of Canada.
Next, priority will be given to Newfoundland and Labrador residents. We also welcome those who are willing to relocate back home and those looking to make NL their permanent home.
We are currently seeking an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join our Utilities Maintenance Department in Voisey's Bay, NL . This is a permanent position.
This position is based at the Voisey's Bay mine site in Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. This position is on a two week on, two week off rotation .
Reporting to the Utilities Maintenance Superintendent, the Electrical Engineer will provide maintenance engineering expertise in the Utilities Maintenance department encompassing power generation, electrical distribution, surface infrastructure for mine ventilation, raw water, fresh water and sewage treatment. You will aim to improve the overall equipment performance and reduce costs through establishment and implementation of proactive and reactive plant maintenance improvement programs. Additionally, in this position you will:
- Proactively recognize and act on opportunities for plant performance improvement (PPI).
- Analyze equipment performance and investigate trends to assist with development of maintenance plans.
- Evaluate new technologies for condition monitoring programs/initiatives and provide necessary input in the selection process (including vendors).
- Establish performance monitoring standards to meet uptime and availability targets.
- Coordinate with Operations, Procurement, Maintenance, Project Engineering, OEMs as required.
- Provide input for Equipment Capital Expenditures - Design for Maintainability and Reliability.
- Apply value analysis (cost vs. benefit) in making maintenance decisions concerning repair, replacement, or redesign of equipment and systems.
- Provide counsel to Operations and Maintenance groups to assist in continuous improvement in key areas of person hours, materials, methods, machinery, and legal compliance.
- Routinely contribute to the planning of realistic production capacity based upon analysis of preventive/predictive maintenance time needs, repair histories, inspection reports, and reliability block analysis.
- Update equipment O&M plans to optimize its life-cycle strategies and improve plant performance and maintain a precision maintenance library for use in PM updates.
About You
Education:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
- Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.) through PEGNL (or eligible for registration).
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) applications may also be considered.
Experience:
- Previous engineering experience in a similar role within in a related field.
- Experience working in an industrial environment such as mining or construction is preferred.
- Experience in power distribution, instrumentation and control systems is an asset.
Skills :
- Knowledge of the repair of fixed plant assets and mining repair facilities would be an asset.
- Knowledge of diesel power generation would be an asset.
- Strong SAP skills would be an asset.
- Proficiency with MS office products (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong decision-making skills.
- Ability to prioritize work & to work in a multicultural environment.
