Communications Officer

Job Title: Communications Officer, Full-time, Permanent

Location of Position . Corner Brook, NL

Department: Communications Division, Executive Office

Accountability: Reports directly to the Communications Manager

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Regular Hours: 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Thursday, Friday 8:30 am to 12:30 pm

Rate of Pay: $46,795.00 /per annum

Responsibilities:

• Lead the day-to-day management of QFN social media channels, including planning, creating, scheduling, publishing, and monitoring content.


• Plan and maintain a social media content calendar to ensure regular and timely promotion of QFN programs, services, events, and initiatives.


• Create written, graphic, photo, and video content for QFN’s social media and other communication channels.


• Attend QFN and community events to capture photos, video, interviews, and stories for use across QFN’s communications channels.


• Write, edit, and distribute content for the QFN website, Maw-pemita’jik Qalipu’k newsletter, social media, and other communication channels.


• Maintain and update website content, including news, events, programs, and announcements.


• Use Canva and other digital content creation tools to develop graphics, promotional materials, and social media content.


• Support basic video creation and editing for social media, events, and program promotion.


• Ensure communications and marketing materials align with QFN brand standards.


• Work with departments to develop and promote communications, social media, and marketing initiatives.


• Coordinate and promote QFN events, including communications, social media, and on-site support.


• Coordinate the Qalipu Today radio show, including content planning, guest coordination, and promotion.


• Support media relations through the preparation of news releases, media advisories, and public service announcements.


• Monitor online and traditional media and track social media and communications performance.


• Maintain confidentiality, accuracy, and compliance with QFN policies.


• Perform other related communications duties as assigned by the Communications Manager.

Qualifications:

Education: Completion of a Diploma or Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration or a related field.

Experience: Two years in a communications-related role. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Working Conditions: This role is primarily office based and within regular office hours. However, from time to time, the Communications Officer will be expected to attend events outside of the office on behalf of Qalipu First Nation. Some travel and overtime may be required.

• Statutory and Non-Statutory Holidays: Employees are entitled to 13 days off to cover Statutory and Non-statutory holidays per year.


• Christmas Break: the office closes during the Christmas break; this is an added bonus that employees are entitled to.

• Registered Pension Plan: QFN has a pension plan, FT employees contribute from 4 to 7%, employee contributions are matched by the Band. 


• Sick and Family Medical: Full-Time Employees are entitled to 12 paid sick and family medical days per year.


• Under 2 hours Medical Appointment: Employees may attend an appointment of less than 2 hours with no deduction to Sick & Family Medical leave.


• Family Bereavement : Three days of paid leave for the death of an immediate family member.


• Discretionary Bereavement: One day off per year for the death of a relative not included as immediate family, a close friend or neighbour.


• Volunteer Program: Employees may volunteer outside of the organization up to 21 hours per year .
