Utilizing experience and expertise developed through over 56 years of service, Creative Energy is advancing a wide portfolio of new low-carbon district energy systems across North America, including the revitalization and decarbonization of our downtown Vancouver steam energy centre. This will be one of North America’s largest thermal fuel-switch projects and will provide downtown Vancouver with renewable energy infrastructure for decades to come.

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting and Analysis, the Senior Accountant is responsible for various aspects of the accounting cycle.

Primary Accountabilities:

• Responsible for full month-end close of subsidiary companies, including:
  
  
  
  • Monthly variance analysis of operations results.
  
  
  • Monitoring of Regulatory deferral accounts
  
  
  • Preparation of monthly and annual journal entries.
  
  
  • Reconciliation of sub-ledgers.
  
  

• Assistance with month-end close of primary companies, including:
  
  
  
  • Preparation of revenue analysis for all revenue streams.
  
  
  • Preparation of monthly loan documentation and quarterly consolidated covenant reporting.
  
  
  • Assesses internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas.
  
  
  • Preparation of variance analyses and troubleshooting on an ad hoc basis.
  
  
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with intercompany and shared service agreements, managing cross-charges and ensuring intercompany amounts reconcile.
  
  

• Supervision and training of junior staff:
  
  
  
  • Supervision of full-cycle AP and AR, assistance with customer and vendor enquiries.
  
  
  • Review of monthly bank reconciliations, GST and PST filings.
  
  
  • Review of monthly journal entries.
  
  

• Assistance with annual projects:
  
  
  
  • Preparation of audit working papers and memos.
  
  
  • Assistance with drafting of annual consolidated financial statements.
  
  
  • Assistance in the preparation of annual budgets.
  
  

• Payroll:
  
  
  
  • Analysis of payroll costs and cross charges among the group of companies.
  
  
  • Submission of pension and RRSP filling and remittance
  
  
  • Ownership of pension working papers, compliance and communication.
  
  
  • Provides back-up for processing bi-weekly payroll for Canadian and US companies. Ensures all source deductions are correctly calculated and properly remitted.
  
  
  • Reconcile & Remit union dues and WSBC and WSIB payments
  
  

• Regulatory:
  
  
  
  • Preparation of regulatory work papers, schedules, and communication
  
  
  • Following up with regulatory and implementing changes based off regulatory ruling.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.


• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.


• Minimum of 3 – 5+ years’ of accounting experience.


• Big 4 experience preferred


• Experience working in a regulatory environment.

What We Offer:

• Competitive starting salary in the range $80,000 - $100,000; placement on the range is dependent on your applicable experience, qualifications, skills and knowledge.
