Manager, Health Science Service - Psychology

Job Purpose

The purpose of this job is to support the implementation and delivery of system-wide health science services through deployment of staff, provision of leadership, and clinical supervision where appropriate, in alignment with Calgary Board of Education standards and governing bodies.

Accountability

  • Leadership and management of functional area staff and resources within the system;
  • Responsiveness of services to the needs of schools;
  • Alignment of functional health sciences services and supports to identify system goals and Alberta Education Standards for Special Education.

Major Responsibilities

  • Defines and implements system-wide standards of practice and ensures ongoing monitoring of services; develop yearly work plan.
  • Provides leadership, direction and support to the Supervisor or the Supervisor of the health sciences functional area, assigning special projects and responsibilities.
  • Recruits, selects, deploys, supervises, and evaluates staff; develops orientation and mentoring programs; carries out disciplinary actions.
  • Maintains knowledge of current theory and practice to meet learning and behavior needs of exceptional learners; leads development of professional procedures.
  • Facilitates professional growth and continuing competence among staff through development opportunities and feedback.
  • Builds favorable working relationships with schools, agencies, and external partners; acts as liaison with other work units and departments.
  • Responds to and resolves concerns about service provision.
  • Collects, interprets, and provides information for budget preparation; facilitates supply of human resource materials and equipment.
  • Undertakes special projects, research, or reports upon request of the Education Director.
  • Develops communication strategies and plans sessions for accurate information dissemination.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as assigned to meet departmental and service delivery goals.

Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Health Sciences (Speech – Language Pathology, OT, PT, Psychology).
  • Registered professional health science designation in good standing.
  • Five years of successful clinical experience at a professional level in the Health Sciences field.
  • Two years’ experience in a leadership role is an asset.
  • Experience in an ECS – 12 educational setting is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered.

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of CBE and Alberta Education policies, regulations, and expectations related to Special Education.
  • Understanding disability-specific programming models.
  • Appreciation of adult learning and staff development.
  • Competence in personal computer application software.
  • Familiarity with student information systems such as SIS.
  • Strong oral, written, presentation, and listening skills.
  • Strong conflict resolution and mediation skills.

Compensation and Hours

Grade M2 $147,700 - $180,100 annually. FTE: 1.0 – 35 hours per week. Calendar: 12 Month Exempt Senior Management.
