• Note: there is another part-time Communications position available within the YWCA (Philanthropy Communication Coordinator). If of interest, applicants are welcome to apply for both positions (totaling 35 hours per week).

POSITION PURPOSE : YWCA Peterborough Haliburton provides safe, secure, confidential crisis, and support services to women and their children in Haliburton and Peterborough Counties who have experienced abuse while working within the YWCA philosophy and policy guidelines. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Coordinator - Strategic is responsible for the development and the implementation of strategic internal and external communications and public relations programs and activities of the YWCA. The Communications Coordinator - Strategic is responsible for implementing strategic capacity building programs to strengthen communication skills of the YWCA staff. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in the development and implementation of communications and public relations strategy including research, writing, graphic design and administrative support; coordinate and support communications strategies and activities for the YWCA as a whole.
• Work with the Executive Director to set realistic goals, develop annual and project-specific action plans and evaluate projects.
• Establish media strategies to raise awareness of critical issues that impact women using a lens informed by the social determinants of health, the impact of trauma and violence, and the YWCA's service delivery intentions.
• Research and develop content for all supporting media releases and communication deliverables in collaboration with the Executive Director.
• Implement marketing and communications plans for the YWCA in order to educate the community about the programs, services and impact of donors, including the development of media strategies to raise awareness of critical issues in violence against women; research and develop content for all supporting media releases and communication deliverables in collaboration with the Executive Director for final approval of all public messaging; establish partnerships with external organizations and market the activities with local media; act as the main media liaison.
• Design and produce effective internal and external communication materials such as YWCA newsletters, annual reports, brochures and handbooks, slide deck presentations, press releases, selection of content, researching and writing articles, preparing layout, coordinating production and working with external resources as required.
• Research, guide, and collaborate on design content of YWCA websites and social media sites and the development of professional and consistent content and materials for YWCA presentations.
• Prepare reports as requested.
• Ensure operational policies and procedures are followed and appropriate records are kept.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

• Solid knowledge of Adobe software, such as InDesign and alternative graphic design programs, such as Canva
• Experience in website management (WordPress), digital communications and social media scheduling software (Constant Contact)
• Exceptional ability to use MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.) and communications platforms
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Commitment to constructive, meaningful and timely interactions with all staff in various roles
• Ability to think critically with attention to detail and consideration of both intended and unintended outcomes
• Solid understanding and commitment to quality and best practice
• Good ability to analyze information, problem-solve and make good decisions/recommendations.
• A confident communicator and presenter
• Strong writing, editing, proofreading, layout and design, professional printing/publishing skills are essential, including ability to present concepts verbally
• Superior project management and time management skills
• A wide degree of creativity and latitude
• Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media
• Self-directed with a good ability to organize, plan, prioritize and refocus.
• Accountability for ones' actions and decisions within the scope of the position and referring issues/problems/events to the supervisor as required

• Ability to deal with sensitive and personal information in a confidential manner
